Siliconera Speaks Up: What Do You Want To See On The PSP?

Assassins Creed, Idolm@ster SP, Resistance, Rock Band, and Shin Megami Tensei (sort of!). This year a lot of big series are coming to the PSP. What series would you want to see most?

Siliconera Speaks Up: What Do You Want To See On The PSP?Jenni: Franchise-wise, I’m pretty satisfied with the PSP offerings. When I look at the games so far, it seems like everything I’d want to see is there. Especially, since Kingdom Hearts is on it’s way to the system with Birth By Sleep.

If anything, I’d like to see a PSP Suikoden game. Whether it’s a localization of Suikoden I & II, or an entirely new game, it’d be a welcome addition.

An entry in the Atelier series would be interesting as well, especially since Mana Khemia has been brought to the system. I think the item gathering series would lend itself well to the PSP. It worked on the DS after all.

Siliconera Speaks Up: What Do You Want To See On The PSP?Louise: One of my wishes, an SMT game on the PSP is already coming true (sort of). Even though it’s a spin-off, I hope that Persona on the PSP will garner the type of interest P3 did on the PS2 and open the way to more SMT games on the system.

My next wish is for a new Grandia game on the PSP. Something with battle mechanics along the lines of Grandia II would be great. There’s already a revival of old PS1 franchises like Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, and Suikoden. Bringing Grandia back falls right in line with it. I’d rather have a non-port than a port, but even being able to replay Grandia II with some speed tweaks in loading on the PSP would be a nice trip down memory lane.

Siliconera Speaks Up: What Do You Want To See On The PSP?Ishaan: I don’t have a PSP and that’s primarily because I’m having enough trouble keeping up with the barrage of DS releases that just keep coming. So, I’m going to try to discuss this from a slightly different angle: What would convince me to go out and buy a PSP within the next few months.

Like Jenni, I’m really looking forward to Birth by Sleep. Final Fantasy Agito XIII looks interesting, too, but last I heard, that was a card battle game and I’m not sure how much I would enjoy that. As far as RPGs go, there’s not much that PSP can do that DS can’t (discounting certain graphical and technical advantages) and we’ve already got a ton of those on the way for the DS. What I would very much like is to see someone make PSP games that really push the technical limits of the system and give people a solid reason to feel satisfied with their purchase. God of War: Chains of Olympus and wipEout are good examples and…

Wait, who am I kidding. All I need is a Persona 4 port.

Siliconera Speaks Up: What Do You Want To See On The PSP?Spencer: After it was mistakenly shown at E3 last year, Valkyria Chronicles would be fantastic. The PSP may not be able to replicate the watercolor effect from the CANVAS engine, but Sega could make a portable Valkyria Chronicles game with art from the anime and high resolution sprites.

Since the PSP has a ton of ports and a library of downloadable PS1 games it would be nice to see developers revive some of their past works. A new Einhander or Mega Man Legends game would be fitting since these are already on the PSP. Games like these already have established universes to build on and fanbases waiting for a new game.

    Einhänder! PLEASE!

I'd kill for an extra-special edition of the Space Channel 5 games with a language switch. We may not ever get a sequel, so I see no reason for the two games not to get the OutRun 2 treatment and get sexy tweaks for the current systems.

The problem is, that to many good games are jap only. Especially europe . Like Jeanne D'arc, Wild Arms XF and many more…..
For the future, there are good psp games…..but they have to come to the west °___°”

Final Fantasy Agito XIII isn't card-based. It's going to be an action RPG with a variation of the Crisis Core battle system. It's misleading because one of the main characters uses cards as his weapon of choice, but the others have more standard weapons.

I like to see GPS add on come out. The psp needs more popular games like you see on the ps3 and ps2 , and more psn games like Fat Princess. I like downloading games and movies from the store. There is so little contain on the psp.

    Sarcasm sucks.

The DS has such a huge amount of great games. I usually keep my PSP in a small curio cabinet. It's more of a decoration than a game system for me.
There may actually be even more great games for PSP than DS…. but not in America.
Translations of some anime tie-ins, visual novels/dating sims, RPGs, that's what I want, and I want then on PSN (I never really liked UMD).
And definitely the US also needs a lot more PS1 games on PSN. It is absurd how slow that trickle has been here.

  • cesca

I'd like to see a translated version of Princess Crown (there's a PSP port) I've been DYING to play that game. I'd also like to see Tales of Rebirth translated.

The Crisis Core format works well for and RPG, so I'm definitely looking forward to Agito, though I suspect we won't see it till 2011….I'm getting old! SE is just so damn slow.

I'll buy Dissidia for sure when it's released in summer. Tales of VS looks interesting too.

Suikoden is already playable on PSP, if you dld in from the PSN store.

US release of PATAPON with actual game :(

  • CleruTesh

A little off-topic, but I have to say it anyways.
After posting this, I got to thinking about what I was missing on PSP in the US.
Specifically, I was looking at the Toradora! game.
And while searching I ran into a DS game called Dengeki Gakuen RPG Cross of Venus.
A multi-anime RPG? Does anyone else think this sounds like the greatest thing ever made?

  • Malek86

I second the idea of a new Grandia.

Zone of the Enders? even a port of zoe2 would be badass.

  • http://www.siliconera.com Jenni

Princess Crown is wonderful! It's also kind of playable without knowing Japanese. There are some great guides on GameFaqs for it.

The weird thing about the GPS unit is SCEA keeps showing it at events with US maps. The last time I saw it the US map system was developed and it was going to come out in Q1, but that didn't happen.

More PSN to PSP PSN games would be great too. :)

  • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Ahh Dengeki Gakuen. We covered that a bit too. Linking light novels, some of which became anime series, was an interesting idea. Now that you mention it I'm surprised there aren't more multi-anime RPGs. There are tons of multi-anime fighting games and anime RPGs. Someone has to start making mult-anime RPGs.

Wouldn't it be funny if Grandia Online was PSP infrastructure game?

  • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

A sequel to Zone of the Enders: Fist of Mars could work out too. Konami has a PSP SRPG engine too from Twelve.

  • CleruTesh

Heh. I shoulda known. Even if I missed the article, nothing awesome happens in the world of video games without you guys knowing about it!
I am fighting the urge in myself to buy this game right now. It's totally irrational since I cannot read the language. But Taiga Asaka AND Haruka Nogizaka together in one game??? I guess buying this will let my conscience rest easier about having watched the series in fansubs….
That's it I'm buying this. Any idea where I can find a guide to help out gaijin like me?

  • Malek86

What if you are actually right? I mean, I always assumed it was going to be for PS3, but now that you mention it… they only said they are developing it on PSN. Now, making games on PSP would be much cheaper, right? For a (relatively) low-selling series like Grandia, it would be a better idea. Just like Phantasy Star Portable, but online.

Eh, but I would still rather have a offline one. Failing that, how about a port of Grandia Xtreme? So I could actually play it.

I am missing shadow of the colossus on my ps2. If SCEA would be willing to make a port of the game on the psp, I will buy it on day one.

  • http://www.infinite-bits.com NickyD

DivX support, Bluetooth connectivity with the PS3, and better Remote Play connections. Still haven't been able to connect the damn things outside of my own wireless bubble.

As far as games, I'm satisfied, but my DS catalog gets 3 games to each PSP title. Why? I really don't know the answer.

An enhanced Vagrant Story port would be great (it was being considered a few years back, but like most considerations, vanished into the night). Also, like someone else mentioned, bring over the darn visual novel-RPG-SRPG-whatever games. So many of them and they seem to do well enough in sales for Japan.

I've long considered starting up a legitimate localization group for visual novels. We'd ask for no royalties except a slice of US-sales; this way the Japanese developers really have nothing to lose, because I'd be behind the editing process. I'm an excellent writer. I just can't translate. That's my only barrier – I need a few more men and a place to start, but I think it's something that really could work and bring a new crowd to the PSP.

  • QBasic

Spencer likes Einhander too? We should totally hang out.

  • UFO

A new Einhander is seriously overdue. Hell, I would even totally buy two copies of an Einhader remake. Haven't bought an SE game in ages.

  • Nika

I agree with an entry in the Atelier series. Other than that keep the otome game ports coming and you have one happy me. or happier than I already was with the current offer of games.

  • shion16

actually it looks more like a phantasy star FinalFantasy ver. than like a crisis core

  • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

It might be too early for a guide :(. The game just came out and since it's off most people's radar I haven't heard anything about it. We'll keep an eye out for one though :)

  • Kuma

I'd really love to see Tales of Rebirth in English(please, Namco).
