Square Enix Developing Another Dragon Quest Spin-off?

By Spencer . April 28, 2009 . 7:50am

image Dragon Quest is slowly growing here with a steady stream of Nintendo DS remakes and the occasional spin-off like Dragon Quest Swords. Will Dragon Quest Wars be next?

Possibly! Square Enix filed a trademark for Dragon Quest Wars in the USA. Hmm… what could this be? A simulation or strategy RPG, perhaps?

Looks like Square Enix is going to have an interesting E3. In addition to Dragon Quest Wars they have Front Mission Evolved and Vanguard Storm to tell us about.

I’d take an Advance Wars clone in heartbeat.

Speaking of DQ spinoffs, where’s Slime Morimori 3 already?

  • MadMirko

The few DQ spin-off titles I played were all pretty good, so I’m up for some more. Somehow I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a downloadable title.

I’m not a super huge fan of the main DQ series but the DQ spinoffs (and remakes) are suprisingly well designed (and balanced!)

      stupid comment.

you’re not fan of the main dragon quest series, yet, you’re a fan of the dragon quest remakes. the main dragon quest series games and the remake games are EXACTLY THE SAME! the dragon quest series hasn’t changed in YEARS. it’s never going to change and that’s the way the japanese people like it.

Revision: I’m not a super huge fan of the main modern, stretched out 70 hour DQ entries (7,8.) But i enjoy the condensed titles like the 4 remake. I had to shout out the remakes as it feels like they were checked for thoughtful item placement, etc. rather that released once the graphics were good. (Square) They don’t have to do that as the DQ remakes will sell well regardless…

Well I’m fascinated by that trademark. I”m still waiting for Dragon Quest IX though. With my luck DQW will be an RTS but I would love it if it were a turn based strategy game. I’d probably buy it either way.

LOL. Now I’m going to have Brownie Brown inspired nightmares. :(

yeah DQ spon-offs are really well designed

I’m still pissed off we never got the latest roguelike DQ: Young Angus’ Mysterious Dungeon (PS2, 2006).

    • jarrodand

I’m surprised it didn’t get a DS conversion. Torneko 2-3 at least made it to GBA, and Chocobo Dungeon Wii got ported to DS.

What about that arcade Dragon Quest? That game has some sweet eyecandy. Not sure how the gameplay is like though.

Sooo who are you talking to?

      • Anti Smile

ooops. i’m talking to user jw.

  • jarrodand

Actually, wasn’t a DQ Swords sequel recently rumored? Maybe it’s that?

I sort of wonder how Horii plans to “seed” Wii in preparation for DQX a couple years from now? DQVII remake? Swords 2? Torneko 4? Monsters Battle Road? DQI-VI on Virtual Console?

  • Mazen

Now this is interesting, I need to know what it is now!
