Adventure Island Not Beginning Well On WiiWare?

This past month Hudson revived Adventure Island with a new WiiWare game. According to the online rankings Adventure Island: The Beginning might not be selling well (thanks for the tip Denpa no Sekai!!). After being out in Europe for almost a week only 54 people are on the leaderboards.

Surely, there are people who bought Adventure Island: The Beginning and opted not to post their score online, but 54 registered scores still seems rather low. Doesn’t it? Adventure Island: The Beginning was released in Japan on April 7 and it seems to be fairing marginally better. There are 259 scores ranked online which averages to about 86 people per week since launch.

Hudson still hasn’t released Adventure Island: The Beginning in North America, but it’s on deck. If the European release wasn’t a sign, the ESRB ranking and US page confirm Adventure Island: The Beginning is coming.

Well, I wonder if the game defaults to not sending in your scores and you have to opt-in. I know I never bother sending my scores to leaderboards to see I’m in 54,000 place.

off topic: what happened to disqus comments?

    “Last Update 09.05.01″ ?

Yeah right. I’m not trying to ruin the sensation here, but that site is either completely confused or will be updated on 1st of May.

An equally non-effective way to gauge this one is by looking at the Wii Shop rankings. According to http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/news/2009/04/top_20_wiiware_games_in_usa_29th_apr it debuted on the 5th place in Sweden, 14 in Germany, 10 in the UK, no data for the other countries.

Make of that what you will.

It’s May 1st in Japan already as of 11AM EST! Spencer’s must be in PST.

Assume 95% of people opt out from leaderboards. You’re get 1k sales in Europe and 5k in Japan, which would STILL be pitiful. Yikes.

I wonder if Pole’s Big Adventure did much better… it’s been out since Feb 3rd.

Pole was a blast to play. Too bad that once is pretty much all it gets since most the fun is in the jokes, and none of them are as good a second time around.

After playing the Japanese version, I can say I understand why people might be snubbing it. It is a good game but the majority of its value in my eyes was nostalgia. It isn’t nearly as good as the GC remake from 3 or 4 years ago. Of course when you go from having 1.4 gigs to 44 mb there are bound to be some things that have to be cut.

Still the backgrounds are pretty dull and they repeat for an entire world with no regard to the map screen. Seeing the top of a mountain look the same as the bottom of it is a little silly. The game fun while it lasts, but that won’t be too long.

I agree and the game is way, way too easy making it not worth much of anything at the end of the day. It’s definitely got ‘skip’ written all over it for anyone that hasn’t already popped for it (like me, sigh).

  • Mazen

Wow this is bad, also they should have an auto generated list stay until real users upload their scores so bad words doesn’t spread about the game and hurts sales more like “nobody is buying this game must be bad”.

From a business perspective it might be a good idea but lets be honest, that is a confidence trick. Any company that would do something that underhanded (…cough….Namco….cough….Capcom….cough) would have to have no integrity.

Well thinking about it this is something Activision Blizaard would do they well even announce in all sites/magazines that they had 10 million people post scores in the first 6 hours,
and when their quarterly finincial result appear, as usual they made 100s of millions of dollars losses but then they brag in all sites/magazines about their huge revenue.

I’s kind of sad, this is basically the same as NSMB but for wonderboy. It does clock in as a tiny bit too expensive though, especially in Australia.

Sorry this was response to daizyujin few posts ago.

I’m part of the problem I guess, I haven’t bought it, and I was kinda scared by the artistic direction for it :/

not that I have anything against it, but… didn’t seduce me
