Mistwalker founder and Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, penned a story where a giant plant controls Earth while people live on Mars hooked into an Earth simulation called reDREAM.
Beyond mutant plants and the environmental ruin theme Sakaguchi explains the reDREAM concept had a character who couldn’t discern if he was in a virtual world or if he was in the real world on a mission to reclaim Earth. reDREAM also an undercurrent of commentary about how players compose themselves in MMOs and online games.”I like the notion that he could be reckless and bad-mannered in the virtual world, but those actions also affecting the real world,” Sakaguchi says. “Like what goes around comes around. Like MMORPGs, action of immoral behavior somewhat reflects one’s true private life….something like that anyway.”
