This Explains The Street Fighter Explosion

From video games to feature films Street Fighter was in your face. This slide demonstrates how Capcom leveraged Street Fighter to target core fans, “casual game” players, and people who don’t know the motion for a Hadouken.

Ahh! So, the Chun-Li pachislot machine was for core fans. Capcom plans to “aggressively pursue the single content multiple usage strategy” with other franchises too. There is a Phoenix Wright play, Sengoku Basara road tour, Monster Hunter trading cards, a Lost Planet movie… what’s next a Dead Rising casino?

  • It’s all good, but how the hell could they let this Street Fighter movie abomination come to be?? The first one may have sucked, but it was lightyears better than the new one! Kreuk looks NOTHING like Chun-Li!!!

Why don’t Japan do their own Dragon Ball and Street Fighter movies? How can they let Hollywood ruin those franchises? I’m just hoping that Cameron’s Gunnm movie won’t be a total bust because that is my favorite manga of all time.

Interesting, I knew we were bombarded w/ everything SF at all fronts, but I never thought of it this way.

I still haven’t seen the Chun-Li movie yet, the trailer just looked way horrible (Vega just looks stupid). My friend dragged me to see DB Evolution in the theater. Now I’ve been a loyal DB or Toriyama fan ever since I was in first grade. It was very corny, but I have to say the movie was surprisingly enjoyable, in a B-movie sort of way like the old Van Damme SF one?. Maybe I went in w/ the lowest expectation. I imagine it could’ve been done a lot better under a different director, but I thought the movie made me laugh throughout, it was kind of cute, it’s like they mixed Goku w/ teen Gohan’s high school life. Then again, it was my friend who paid the $12.50 for me..

When I saw Star Trek last Friday, the snowy planet scene reminds me of Lost Planet, so I look forward to that and Mass Effect.

Seems a bit odd to me that Capcom wants to saturate the market with Street Fighter stuff, but can’t be bothered to do anything with the market-leading consoles — namely the Nintendo DS and the Wii.

Or maybe Capcom just doesn’t like money…
