Grasshopper Manufacture Working With Square Enix?

By Spencer . May 18, 2009 . 1:50pm

image Self described “video game band”, Grasshopper Manufacture, redesigned their website. Not something that we would usually report, but there is a little change in the section that mentions their principle business partners. Square Enix is on the list.

With the exceptions of platform holders Microsoft and Sony, all of the other companies on the primary business partners list published a game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture. Companies like D3 Publisher that commissioned Grasshopper Manufacture for audio assistance are not listed as primary business partners.

Is this an early sign that Grasshopper Manufacture is developing a game for Square Enix?

Here’s a sketch of the other primary business partners and how Grasshopper Manufacture relates to them.

CAPCOM CO.,LTD. -> killer7
ELECTRONIC ARTS INC. -> Untitled horror game
MARVELOUS INTERACTIVE INC. -> Contact / No More Heroes
NAMCO BANDAI Holdings inc. -> Samurai Champloo / Blood+ One Night Kiss
Q ENTERTAINMENT INC. -> Untitled horror game
SPIKE CO.,LTD., -> Michigan: Report from Hell
TECMO,LTD -> Fatal Frame IV

  • Interesting.. Interesting for sure..

  • ELECTORONIC ARTS… I love Engrish.
    I’m surprised that, given they listed Ubisoft for No More Heroes, they didn’t list Atlus USA for Contact.

    • My guess and, this is totally a guess, is the Ubisoft version has more blood and gore than the European/Japanese release published by Rising Star/Marvelous. Perhaps, Ubisoft asked Grasshopper to program or code things differently so they’re considered a “primary business partner.”

      • By the way, from their developed games list:

        Title is undisclosed. On GameBoy ADVANCE published on March 28,2002. Publisher is undisclosed.

        Which game was that?!?

        • Apparently Shining Soul 1, as listed on thier wiki page. The date on the site and the game’s japanese release add up. Odd about the way they wrote that but the sequel gotten meantioned all the way.

          • Great work. :) This sounds logical.

            I was digging around too and saw Fire Emblem was released on the same day, but I can’t imagine Grasshopper developing a Fire Emblem game.

      perhaps because they actually worked with Ubisoft with the “bloody version” but had no direct involvement with the contact localization?

      Just trying to make some sense out of it, so I might be wrong
