Jambo! Safari Rolling Onto Wii And DS

imageThe Wii is the console to own for Sega arcade ports. House of the Dead 2, Ghost Squad, and soon Jambo! Safari are on the Wii.

In Jambo! Safari players drive a Land Rover and lasso animals. The Wii version adds new features like ranger customization and motion controlled lasso tossing. You actually swing a remote tethered to a nunchuck like a lasso. I wonder how that’s going to work out…

Since Jambo! Safari Animal Rescue is a Wii game it has mini-games such as Ostrich Racing and Meerkat Madness. The DS adaptation has stylus control, uses both screens, and that’s all we know about it. Perhaps, Sega will toss in a pet trading or safari animal care mini-games.

Jambo! Safari Animal Rescue is slated to come out in late 2009 which sounds like November or December.

Huh. Of all the games to port, I never would have expected this one. I never saw it in a US arcade, but I remember it from the Dreamcast days. Sega should port the Brave Firefighters arcade game; I always got a kick out of that one.

The screens of Jambo Safari Wii don’t look like the arcade game that I recall though. Is this another one of those “take a Sega arcade property and give to a Western dev for a redo” games?

Yeah very sad its a remake with new art not a port, the arcade graphics are shiny and great and the characters looks good, this is a remake from some western dev.

This was in US arcades. Gameworks had it in the north Texas area, but that was nearly a decade ago. Way to go Nintendo…
