Sony passed on publishing Afrika outside of Asia, but the safari photo hunt game will get a domestic release from everyone’s favorite Harvest Moon publisher, Natsume.

Rhino Studios spent four years developing Afrika before it was released in Japan last year. In the game players take missions, sneak behind lions, and snap photos. Capturing Kodak moments also unlocks information about the wildlife provided by National Geographic.

An English version popped up in Asia too under the name Hakuna Matata. It’s unclear if Natsume’s release is based on the existing English translation from Sony Computer Entertainment Asia’s or not. Afrika isn’t Natsume’s only safari game either. They also picked up Amazing Animals from Success, a Wii game based on a Japanese TV show, which will come out stateside under the name Animal Kingdom: Wildlife Expedition this summer.

Update: Natsume clarified Afrika’s release window. Expect to see this game in stores this fall.

I’m actually quite interested in both Afrika and Endless Ocean. I love animals. <3

Can the animals maul the photographer or they would just run away if they notice you? It would be nice if this is a little cheaper, like Endless Ocean at $30. Been interested in this game for a long time but I hate the Hakuna Matata title.

I was very surprised when I first heard this, but the more I think about it the more I see how this will fit in with Natsume’s other titles.

Man I got screwed on this one. ;-( I never thought it was going to show up (Due to them thinking of Lack of interest in America) So I bought the English/Asian version of Afrika a.k.a. Hakuna Matata when it went on sale for $29.99 thinking it was going to go out of print. Well now I may well buy it again but I think it should only be on sale for $29.99 since we had to wait so long to get it. I also really do Appreciate Natsume’s willingness to publish this title and know that at the right price I will re-buy this game.
