Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Zips Into Stores Next Year

By Spencer . May 28, 2009 . 10:13am

As a pre-E3 surprise Sega announced a mascot racing game. Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing includes Sonic and other cutesy characters like AiAi from Super Monkey Ball and Amigo from Samba de Amigo. Each character has their own car and an all star super move (read: comeback move) like the Tails Tornado. Similar to Mario Kart power ups and items can be collected on the track too.

Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing has split-screen offline multiplayer for four players and an online mode for eight racers. The game is in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS. While not specifically pointed out the Nintendo DS version probably won’t have split-screen multiplayer. It should have a local wireless mode, but will the portable version have an online mode? too

Also, why is Sonic in a car? Shouldn’t the world’s fastest hedgehog burn the competition on foot?

its an all starts game sonic name is in the title for recognition

now heres hoping the game is better than tennis which was average at best but could have been amazing

Is there a chance of this being by Sonic Team? I play racing game only if the music is amazing like old Sega racers, Sonic Team uses Sega’s Wave Master composers and some of the world best composers if not the best are in there.

I bet it’s sumo digital, Sega europe did the press release and sumo digital is english. plus they did sega superstar tennis, that game with sonic and company doing tennis.

Plus… The character model isn’t the one from Sonic Unleashed, but I think it is similar to the superstar tennis one.

AWESOME!!! Loved the tennis one can’t wait!

    Sonic Drift 3?!? FINALLY.

god bless no PS2 or PSP version. which means no low poly embarassing wii version… I hope

I highly doubt that the Wii version will get the shaft, if anything, Sumo’s been favoring it lately.

The Wii version of Virtua tennis 2009, also by Sumo, is definitely the definitive version, and why shouldn’t it? It’s got all the features, including Wi-Fi, AND the big addition of M+.

So it’s not hard to imagine Racing being any less on the Wii than the HD platforms, plus they can focus more on it without a PS2 version to worry about unlike Supertar Tennis.

Not to mention the whole thing of Sonic being favored on Nintendo’s platforms, but whether that’s relevant is another story.

What’re the odds of the Wii version even being the baseline platform? Did SST or VT09 begin on the Wii?

Plus, both SST and VT09 look quite good on the Wii, and SST at least ran in 60 frames ro so I’ve heard, perhaps both VT09 and Racing will too?

    We’ll see at E3 hopefully.

This happened a while ago.. Sonic Drift I think it was called. It was not as good as Mario Kart though, and was on the Game Gear (bad graphics probable reason)

Huh… Looks, suspiciously, a lot like Mario Kart. Honestly, SEGA, get your own idea! XD
