Take Another Look At The Claymore DS Game

Claymore: The Witch’s Silver Eyes squeaked into Japan today and Digital Works Media sent out a new set of screenshots for the supernatural beat ‘em up.

In Claymore you get to play as Clare, the lowest ranked yoma slaying Claymore, and according to a screenshot Miria, who was once Clare’s squad leader. This is the first time I’ve seen Miria in the game so Digital Works Entertainment might have more surprises in Claymore aside from giant yoma to fight.

if only those screenshots were from fmv’s from a ps3 game…

that’d be nice but consoles like the DS and live arcade etc. are what keeping these kind of genre alive (beat em ups etc) and also allowing many games that are not necessarily “AAA” product/big budget games to be released and distributed at all. I have no problem with this being on the DS.

this game looks fantastic. i saw the entire anime and it stops at a certain point which i totally understand to get people to read/purchase the manga. i can’t wait to get some soon and read during the summer :)

  • Batman

Definitely looks like it could be a good game.

  • 2dere

This has got my interest just because I’m a fan of the manga. (haven’t seen a lick of the anime.) If it turns out to be a decent game then that will just be a bonus.

    • Aoshi00

The anime was very well done (same studio that did Death Note) and highly recommended even if you’ve read the manga. Action was animated well w/ no restraint on gore, which did the manga justice. The cast was grade A too as all the Claymores were voiced by veteran voice actresses. The ending was different since it caught up to the manga at volume 13, I actually haven’t watched the last two episodes yet..

  • Aoshi00

Huge fan of the manga, I hope the game is as fun as it looks, too many failed anime games.. The screen shots look amazing, they actually have all those boss fights on location, seems very faithful to the story. The CG intro looks very nice. I really want this game and is very much tempted in getting the Taiho-kun LE Gyakuten Kenji DSi, even though I have no reason to jump on a DSi yet..

    • CleruTesh

I cannot recommend jumping to DSi. The lower battery life is definitely noticeable, and no matter which brightness I use, the colours always seem off from what I would prefer.
The bigger screens are nice, but also bring out the flaws in lower-res games.

      • Aoshi00

Thanks for the heads-up, I was worried about the shortened battery life too, which is the most important thing for a handheld, it would suck you play the game a little then need to get close to the outlet. I’ll stick w/ my Lite then. I just thought I wanted to play Gyakuten Kenji and maybe paying a little premium for the mascot system. In order to stop myself from impulse-buy, I always ask myself several times “Am I really going to play this?” or “Would it make a difference if I don’t have it?”

You’re right though, if we’re jumping on a new model every time, look at PSP, a 3000 was just out and now UMD-less.. crazy.

  • Traveler

It looks exactly like…..the recent Castlevania games

  • EvilAkito

I’ve had my eye on this game for a while. I’d like to import it, but I’ll play it safe and read about the game first to see if it’s worth it.

I wonder if you’ll get to play as Teresa as well?

  • ryne11

I wonder if there is ANY chance for NA localization

I would pick it up day one, but I am unsure as to how well the Claymore properties sell in the US

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

I think the chances are slim to none for Claymore. In addition to the anime rights someone has to broker a deal with Digital Works and there aren’t any US companies linked to them.

That said there is way more interest in Claymore than I anticipated… I’ll see what we can do to give this proper coverage…

      • ryne11

I think Atlus has a thread in their Game suggestion section reguarding this game, but I am ignorant to whether they would take the trouble to localize an anime game (is the story of the game more anime or manga?) that won’t air on TV

    • soopykun

claymore is doing pretty well in the US (by anime/manga market standards), but i think for the game to come over, what it needs is some more mainstream visibility. naruto, bleach, and afro samurai have all been able to get that because they were shown on mainstream cable channels. on top of that naruto/bleach/dbz can sell to kids, and afro samurai has samuel l. jackson in it, so it appeals to the casual, 18-35 audience.

claymore is an awesome series, and doing well by anime market standards, but you’ve gotta have a ton of momentum to be able to move anime games in the us. i mean, look at how many haruhi games have been licensed so far, and how cheaply you can get the stand alone complex games for now.
