[email protected] DS Appears To Be Japan’s First DSi Enhanced Game

By Spencer . June 2, 2009 . 5:40pm

imageThe first [email protected]: Dearly Stars trailer is meant to introduce the new idols, but I think Namco Bandai inadvertently announced camera support.

Freeze frame the menu screen and you can see an option for “QR Code”. It’s the top item in the menu. QR Codes are these blotches of black and white spots, which act sort of like bar code hypertext. Point a camera phone’s lens on a QR Code and you’re whisked to a linked website.

A regular Nintendo DS can’t read QR Codes, but the Nintendo DSi and it’s two cameras can. At this point it is unclear if Namco Bandai plans to release [email protected]: Dearly Stars as a Nintendo DSi exclusive, a Nintendo DSi enhanced game or if this menu is a mistake. Remember, Nintendo DSi games are said to be region locked. The status of DSi enhanced games remains unknown.

[email protected]: Dearly Stars takes the stage in Japan this fall.

Can somebody please find out when the release date to Demon’s Soul is. There’s a booth directly behind Gamespot Live.

  • I remember reading about getting costumes while scanning the code through the DSi camera. I don’t know if they were planning anything else since that’s all that was stated in the articles I read.
This is shaping up to be a really interesting game. It’s already so different from the other games in the series. But, they did keep the cowlicks on the new characters to a minimum.

wow….namco bandai really knows how to hit me where it hurts….

i love [email protected], but i have absolutely no interest in the dsi. i hope this is not dsi exclusive. i already bought all three versions of sp, not fully ready to buy a dsi for an [email protected] spinoff….

if you’ll excuse me, i’m going to go drown my sorrows now by buying some $25 [email protected] character singles…

I don’t think this is DSi exclusive; just DSi enhanced. So, if you’re more than willing to play without whatever those codes offer, then a regular DS or DS Lite should do fine ^^

I’ve read somewhere that the DSi itself isn’t region locked; just DSi features, per se. I don’t think you can get the benefits of those codes on a non-Japanese DSi.
