Pop ‘n Music Heading To Wii And North America

By Spencer . June 4, 2009 . 5:40am

image After eleven years and over a dozen arcade releases Pop ‘n Music is coming to North America. The first international game called Pop ‘n Music is being developed for Wii and coming this fall.

Fans may be disappointed to know that the colorful arcade controller won’t be released overseas. The game has been adapted for the Wii remote and nunchuck. Konami also changed the art by introducing 3D characters and Mii’s are in the background instead of animated music videos.

Oh, yuck. Didn't they learn their lesson from Beat 'N Groovy? Without the controller or the original presentation style, series devotees will steer clear of this one, and newcomers will shy away back to Guitar Whatsis. They gave it an honest shot with the US release of Beatmania, but if they're going to half-ass it, why bother, y'know?
  • oh god this is going to bomb as bad as rock revolution

But this time, they're devaluing an amazing (my favorite Bemani) series in the process. Keep it up, Konami!

Will it still be compatible with the special controller if you import it?
  • No Wii controller was announced so... no I guess?

    Uhg, awful.

Why do companies do this? The controller is a huge part of the game. And if they are unable to accept the style of the series, don't shoehorn in some crappy graphics that appeal to people that wouldn't care either way. It's insulting to fans of the series.
  • I'll pass...
    Sorry Konami.
