Sega Racing Classic Sounds Like Sega’s Next Arcade Racing Game

Sega still develops new racing games without Sonic in the driver’s seat. We just haven’t seen them on consoles. Hummer and Initial D Arcade Stage 5 came out in Japanese arcades this year. Looks like their next arcade racer is going back to basics.

Sega filed a trademark for Sega Racing Classic with a logo in Europe. Unlike other trademarks this one is specifically for use with arcade machines and coin operated electronic arcade games. Perhaps, Sega Racing Classic will be the first driving game built on Ringedge hardware. So far only two games, Border Break and Shining Force Cross, make use of the new board.

Why the use of the word Classic? will this be related to some old racing arcade from them? is this related to the ray tracing rumors!
I hope so that technology seems like it can revive arcades worldwide.

  • Very very interesting post..I like this one. gotta bookmark this one.

I enjoyed Sega Rally, and really appreciated the hard work that had clearly gone into the game’s (proprietary?) engine. On the plus side, there are loads of racing studios in the UK, so the staff won’t have entirely lost out.
