Square Enix Sketch Teases New Game

imageHey, look it’s another cryptic Square Enix teaser site! The title claims it’s for a “new game”, but what new game?

All we have is a sketch and timer counting down to July 6. The RSS feed link says the mysterious site will gradually update with a clearer sketch. Square Enix is milking this…

Oh, and there’s a “4” which could mean this is linked to an existing series. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the SaGa and there are only three original SaGa games so far… SaGa 4 then?

  • SaGa 4 is a good guess. That music sounds a lot like something from one of the SaGa Gameboy games (Final Fantasy Legend); at least to me anyway. Maybe a retro-styled true sequel (on mobiles or downloadable services – perhaps a DSiWare thing)? Or maybe just a modern sequel that brings the game back to its roots.

  • I haven’t been keeping an eye on what happened to the trademark, but could this be Hikari no Yon Senshi?

    • Ah yeah that’s a fair guess, but I think Hikari no Yon Senshi would be a subtitle, rather than a game. Saga 4: Hikari no Yon Senshi… I guess that could work!

SaGa’s a good guess, though there’s also Romancing SaGa 4.

Could also be the 4th FFCC dungeon crawler? 4th Ogre game? 4th Heaven ARPG (I wish).

    • Romancing SaGa 4 is a good guess too. There’s so much SaGa buzz now I feel like that’s gotta be it.

      • jarrodand

The only real question is platform(s)? HD multi or Wii?

    • I dunno, this doesn’t give off a Crystal Chronicles vibe at all. And since Crystal Bearers and My Life as a Darklord are their two big upcoming games in that series, I doubt they’d reveal a third one this soon.

  • Bakke

    ..or Romancing SaGa 4? :o

    • firenze

      …or Seiken Densetsu 4?

      • Nah, it can’t be Seiken Densetsu 4. That’s what Square Enix called Dawn of Mana in Japan.

  • QBasic

Oh, god… Timers….EVIL! Really….I think devs need a new way of mysterifying and hyping up games, instead of using timers… Countdowns are the devil.

  • DarkAesthir

I’m going with SaGa 4, considering the gameboy-like music they used with on the site. If it was Romancing SaGa, they’d probably use something a bit more 16-bit.
Initially I thought (based on shoddy calculations) that they were gonna announce it on July 4th, which would help with the association with 4, except it’s a Saturday…

Perhaps they’ll make SaGa 4 based on the engine they’re remaking SaGa 2 with.

  • Hmm, I’d definitely prefer something else. Otherwise it will feel like all we are getting this generation, console wise, are Akitoshi Kawazu games.

  • Oath

    Grandia 4? SaGa 4? Please god, Heaven-Sword (Snes Quintet/Enix games) 4th installment!?

    • Hraesvelgr

Yeah, after Grandia III, I gotta say NO THANKS to any new Grandia games.

  • Hraesvelgr

    New SaGa, please!

  • Alcahest

    SaGa 4 – that’s what I’d say judging by the old-school GB-style MIDI music.
The only other serie I could think of given the ‘4’ number would be RoMa SaGa 4.
Any of these would be just great for people (like me) who enjoyed playing the ‘Final Fantasy Legend’ back in the time!!
Now I wonder on which platform that would be… DSiWare… mobile?

You know I am going to laugh so hard when this game (whatever it is) is announced as yet another DS game. Look I don’t mind DS, but the DS needs another RPG like we all need a third arm growing out of our foreheads. Seriously I would be angry if it was not so sad, the best stuff to come out of S-E has all been handheld titles. Every one of their console offerings have been either horribly stale (Star Ocean LH) or utter garbage (Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, FF: Crystal Chronicles EOT). You could blame Tri-Ace but EOE looks interesting at least and that one is being published by Sega. Many have said it before but Square has really been slipping since the Enix merger. I miss Squaresoft.
