Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo Clips Fight For Your Attention

image I understand if you’re burnt out on Dragon Ball games. Dragon Ball games are like the Madden of anime games, but give Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo a chance. The 2D side scroller nails the feel of the anime and it’s the most refreshing title with the Dragon Ball license in years. One boss battle I played reminded me of Klonoa. I ran in a circle while pile driving robots to freeze the boss.

Since it’s a Dragon Ball game you know there has to be a versus mode too. In Revenge of King Piccolo’s two player fighting mode players can pick characters other than Goku.

Namco Bandai will publish Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo in Japan this summer and in North America during the fall. The international version uses Japanese voice acting for the cutscenes.

"...it’s the most refreshing title with the Dragon Ball license in years."

Did you play the recent DS game? That felt pretty damn fresh to me... (And I almost can't stand anything DB.)
  • Nah, that's the one I missed since it wasn't at E3. I am looking forward to it too as seen by the number of posts about it here!
  • MadMirko
That DS title is on my backlog as well. Seems I picked a good time to get into these games.
  • Looks really fun.
It's been a long time since I last watched the original anime.

You sure that the NA version will use Japanese voice lips in cutscenes? FUNimation may not have done recording for that yet.

Can we finally get a confirmation of the developer? :/

They used to not includ Jpn track for the NA DBZ games, but Burst Limit changed that w/ dual audio right?

As a life-long DB fan, watching DB Kai every week (trip down memory lane) and w/ this game coming up, it's bliss I tell ya.
  • Yes, the North American version with use Japanese voice acting. I've confirmed this with Namco Bandai.
  • Hero of Legend
What about the music? Is it the same as in the JP version?

And does this mean dual audio, or as you said, does it only use JP voices in cutscenes?
  • The music *should* be the same. The last time I heard they're looking into any licensing issues.

The game will not have dual audio, just Japanese voices.
  • Hero of Legend
WHAT?! Why isn't FUNimation recording for the game? :/ That's disappointing, I like the English voices far more. :(

The PAL release will be the same it seems. BN already confirmed that will keep the music, don't know why NA would have any problems...

I've said it before, but I really love the animation in old school Toriyama style here(unlike DB GT). The 2nd clip w/ Goku catching Karin-sama like a big plush is so funny, you seem to shake the remote while holding him. And the cel shaded cutscenes w/ General Blue, Tao PaiPai, Tenshinhan, and Demon King Piccolo are some of the best I've seen on any console DB game, many times better than even Burst Limit on PS3 (repetitive animation). I'm going to import this if they include some pre-order goodies.
  • You know I haven't seen any pre-order bonuses for this yet. Most DBZ games don't have them these days right?
  • Aoshi00
Nothing substantial at least. I think the Jpn version of Burst Limit included a small artbook, and one of the PS2 games has this tiny ballpoint pen made in the shape of a capsule, but nothing much..

I totally agree w/ you, the yearly Madden-like release of fighting games is a total bore, original DB w/ Klonoa-like gameplay, this just cannot go wrong.

Just need to have the challenge up there and no complaints.

If you really want us to pay attention, you might want to list the system the game is for in the article. If I didn't watch one of the YouTube movies, I wouldn't have known it was for the Wii (I thought it was for the DS looking at the graphics initially)
