I usually prefer the english voices, but it is always nice to switch over to the japanese dub to hear the original voices just to get a feel for their tone and delivery against the english speaking cast. This way people can always do that. As long a save file for one works with the other everyone should be fine.

I'm pretty sure that would just cause more confusion and it would also be pretty weird. I don't care about that. Hell, I wouldn't even say anything about name changes from something completely stupid (unless they change it into something equally stupid) or having to change jokes/whatever that wouldn't make sense outside of Japan. But you know, when you turn a character into a lame, walking stereotype, then I have an issue with it.

Oh, and btw, Claude is the better name. Mostly because Claude is an actual name and Crawd just seems like Engrish.

My issue isn't with typos or whatever minor errors they make. I guess I'm too optimistic.

Hint: The original voice actors already got their full pay years ago when nobody thought about a US release. Their performance is now owned by SEGA. Japanese voice acting is therefore at most a question of higher or lower royalties. The English cast however might not even be hired yet, and in the end their salary alone will surely add a lot onto the single US release's price tag, which everyone has to pay.

If they released the two discs as to independent versions of the game, the one with the original Japanese voices would be cheaper (or have a larger profit margin). It would also be interesting for NISA to watch which version would have ended up selling more copies. And from the fan perspective, it could have become a powerful sign to the industry if the Japanese voiced version outsold the one with Englishified voices.

Also, think about the extra time the dubbing takes. Wasn't the game first announced for fall? The people prefering Japanese voices not only pay for the additional English dub with their money, but also with their time. If two versions were to be released, the one with original voices could be sold months earlier, like it already happens with anime in the US (Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann) and PC games in Europe (TES3: Morrowind).

Selling both in one package is probably a cheap move to prevent one version being sold out too soon because of bad prognosis on the first production run. I guess they don't really trust themselves on this project, but I'm still happy that they picked it up. It will definitely be something new over here and be a big step into the right direction for the many fans of such games living in overseas.

When I wrote that post I somehow had a foreshadowing that some guy would try to turn it upside down and thought about writing a preventive-arguement against that, but then I figured that nobody would be stupid enough. I guess they must have some pretty decent sales expectations for it, maybe over 100,000? I find it a little surprising, considering the average sales of a non-Disgaea NISA game is not very high... I hope it pays off for them.

“Sad for the people who only wanted the original voices, as they have to pay for the English cast whether they want or not.”

You could say the same for anyone who is not interested in the Japanese voices… it's definitely an interesting decision on NISA's part.
