Hands On Bit.Trip Core

Hands On Bit.Trip Core

In Bit.Trip Core you blast bits to the beat by firing lasers with the d-pad. Remember Gitaroo Man? It’s sort of like the Colecovision version that.

Bits move past the laser in the middle of the screen on beat. The challenge is figuring out which direction the bits are going to fly from. Early on bits fly in predictable patterns moving from left to right or up and down. Midway through the level bits start faking players out by moving in one direction and switching to the other. Then the screen floods with bits from every angle!

Bit.Trip Core is difficult because it seems like it’s designed with two players in mind. In co-op mode each player controls a laser beam and since the levels are the same you should have a better chance of surviving. Just have one player focus on up and down while the other player hits beats flying left and right. Speaking with Aksys I learned Gaijin Games was considering to make Bit.Trip Core a four player game like Bit.Trip Beat. However, this plan was scrapped. The game wouldn’t work if four players controlled four laser beams.

I didn’t survive to see the boss level, but a staff member from Aksys hinted that the stage I played had something inspired by Missile Command. Just like Bit.Trip Beat, Bit.Trip Core has nostalgic surprises at the end of each stage.

Bit.Trip Core comes out on the Wii shop channel in just a few hours.

Bit Trip Beat is equally difficult for one player, at least until the dot patterns are memorized. I guess that's part of their attempt to recapture and old-school feel.

Is there a similar mechanic as in Beat, where the screen loses all color and sound only comes from the remote when you are close to failing? I loved that.

Yep, it's there! That's when the game feels most intense, despite being in black & white and not having a backbeat.

Finally got to Growth today. Phew…

I read in an article that the creator wrote saying that the bosses in Beat were last minute additions and weren't originally planned to be included. He felt it was rushed on how they did it, but I honestly wouldn't know. It was really cool getting to the Descent “boss”. It's pretty amazing that only three guys were behind creating this game. I know Anthony hates me saying that but I gotta!

The creator also mentioned the story will be more apparent around game 5 or 6, so it seems they're going to continue the series for some time. Sounds good!

Bit Trip was planned as a 6 episode series, wasn't it? I seem to remember a NP scan mentioning that. Not much wiggle room for plot twists. :)

Oooh, that just reminded me to buy Bit Trip Beat. I should probably practice on that before attempting the harder Core. I'm glad that it has a co-op mode. Maybe I can get the BF to play with me.

Yea, hopefully it'll be soon. Thanks guys.

Still, Core looks awesome. Loved Beat so this is a no-brainer.
