Sands of Destruction Anime And DS Game Flow Next Year

By Spencer . July 6, 2009 . 6:12pm

imageSands of Destruction will be a mixed media project here too. Sega signed a licensing deal which gives Funimation the rights to distribute, broadcast, and merchandise the first thirteen episodes of the anime series in North America.

Production I.G., the studio behind Ghost in the Shell and the animated shorts for Infinite Space, created the series which aired in Japan last summer. The anime will get a domestic release in spring 2010.

Before that Sands of Destruction will debut on the Nintendo DS. Sega plans to release the game here in January 2010.

That press release is from Funimation. The one we have is from Sega and says January 2010. We’re sticking with that.

I don’t know if the anime is a plus for the game or not, but at least this gives imageepoch more than enough time to implement those changes/improvements. I hope they’re at least fixing how broken the game becomes when you can link rush attacks together, it’ll probably require a complete rebalancing…

I think the anime was a huge minus, just like the Blue Dragon anime, they add absolutely nothing to the games. If that’s the reason why the game release is delayed it’s very unfortunate. To think that Production I.G. has their name on it as a draw, it was certainly no Death Note or Majin Tantei Neuro..

Having seen the lackluster anime and read about the negative aspects in the Jpn version (which are to be tweaked in the US ver), and the long wait/numerous delay. I went from thinking this as a must-own (Sega, Mitsuda, Xenogears art) to don’t-care.

I was hoping this was one of the reasons the game’s localization was so lengthy from time of announcement (announced in Fall 2008 and not coming till Fall 2009, which now turned into Jan 2010? Oy!)

    I’ll wait though!
