Downloadable Manga Coming To PSP

By Spencer . July 8, 2009 . 6:55am

image Sometime this year Sony will start selling manga on the PlayStation Store. The announcement assures current PSP owners will be able download manga since it’s compatible with all PSP models. Specific titles and pricing were not announced.

Currently the news is just for Japan, but Sony could work with manga or comic book companies domestically.

Third parties offer similar services on the Wii and Nintendo DS. Sunsoft’s digital manga service is particularly interesting since it gives users an option to read manga with English subtitles even though it’s only out in Japan.

    Aha. Haha.
    Ha.
    No.
I've been able to read manga on my PSP for free since I've owned it in one way or another.

Which is why Sony are just getting round to copying yet another idea from the homebrew community. I doubt this will leave Japan.

Do you know if they could be read on the PS3 too? I thought this idea is at least better than the DS reader, nobody wants to "read" manga on those tiny low res dual screens by constantly zooming in and out..

I actually wouldn't mind paying for digital manga if the titles are the new ones from Japan instead of antique like the Tezuka Osamu oldies, since I buy several books every month and there are mountains of manga in my place now.. Also they should be cheaper than paper prints too, a tankoubon is 390 yen average..
