Microsoft Searching For An Xbox Angel

By Spencer . July 14, 2009 . 6:20am

imageMajor Nelson is the voice of Xbox Live in the US and most English speaking countries. He has a lot of reach, but due to language barriers he can’t be the Xbox spokesperson for, say, Taiwan. So, Taiwan is getting their own figurehead — an Xbox Angel.

Microsoft’s Xbox division in Taiwan is holding an open casting call for the position . To join the search you have to be a loquacious female, over 18, and play an Xbox 360 for at least 360 minutes per week. Four semi-finalists will be selected by a panel of judges. Afterwards, the Xbox Angel will be chosen by the Internet on August 18.

The winner gets a role as an Xbox ambassador, which means promoting the Xbox 360 over social network services like Facebook, hosting Xbox Live events, and writing a column. On top of exposure, the Xbox Angel gets showered with gifts including an Xbox 360, three month Xbox Live subscription card, games, and a 35,000 NT stipend for three months of work (appx. $1090).

It’s too early to tell who the first Xbox Angel will be, but based on clicks “Rabby” and “Mini” are getting the most attention. “Rabby” is on the left and “Mini” is on the right.

So the Taiwanese Xbox Angel wouldn't be hosting short video segments on Live like Major Nelson?

I like how Japan did it the past half year, w/ the host Mori Icchou and his gang of five girls, doing lots of interview, featurettes, and introducing and demoplaying new games (even covering E3 09). Not all the girls are pretty (2 of them are), but they are extremely cute and actually seem to know about games. I have no idea why they replaced Icchou-san starting in July. The new 17 year-old girl is horrible, she's like a tomboy but sucks at games, screaming while playing Infinite Undiscovery or Megaman 9. It's absolutely no fun to watch her play at all.

As for the PS3 counterpart, Christina Lee is so phony, can't really stand her Pulse segments. Sony should find a better looking poster girl.

Actually, forget about good looking (even though it would be nice), the more important thing is the girl has to have personality. The 5 Jpn Live girls all had different personalities, probably not by coincidence. One was confident, one was shy but extremely cute and gentle, one was kind of hyper, one was calm, and my favorite was the good looking tomboy who was playful and always poked fun at the host. Again I had no idea why they got replaced..

I'm not sure how much of a role this Xbox angel would play though.. those girls are so slutty looking, lol..
  • It might be video segments, it might not. She might show up on one of Taiwan's video game shows and write blogs or something.

I guess it's a new position and sadly, you can't tell personality from photos :(

Rabby, and no thats not being cheap, thats not much of a job all they have to do is go online and write stuff
  • 1k for 3 months of work. I think they pay more in a sweatshop.

Except you're probably not expected to work that many hours... It's just a side job that could lead to more places, like, you know, modeling and all...
  • Great, now they want hot girls to beta test girls on 360 for months
So the PS3 will get the definite edition again...LOL!

    THANKS TAIWAN!

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
