Bayonetta Hexed With A Delay

Bayonetta will come out in Japan on October 29, but it won’t come out stateside until January 2010.

Mike Hayes, President and COO of Sega West, explained the delay with the following statement, “Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title’s potential.”

The holiday season is always a busy time and even critically acclaimed new IP like Valkyria Chronicles didn’t fare well then. Sega may be making the correct marketing decision, but that thought won’t console hordes of fans hyped for Bayonetta.

There is hope for eager fans though! PlatinumGames showed me an updated version of Bayonetta at E3. The demo had English voice acting and Japanese subtitles. So, Bayonetta might be import friendly like the Devil May Cry series.

Importing the Asian version. Even cheaper than buying it here directly!

Won’t everyone have spent all their cash already after Christmas, though? Maybe they should release in February, but then they may conflict with other heavy hitters like Mass Effect 2 and God of War 3. A summer release when there’s nothing to play would have players’ attention all to themselves but might prove too long of a wait and people will flock to the Jp version.

Ah heck, just delay the whole thing until June next year and polish it ’til you can see the hairs on people’s faces.

Oh, this is sad news. But there are so many other good games coming out this year that I guess it’s good to balance them out a bit.

Early 2010 is just as packed, I wish it was December at the latest. This can just as easily be overlooked right after the holiday rush.

    No downside. Game looks awful.

Since the US release is still listed as November at Play-Asia and no Japanese release is listed it’s quite possible the Asian release will be delayed along with it, and only the Japanese release will stay on track.

Aside from Sigma 2 and Uncharted 2 there’s not much else I’m interested in this Fall so will probably import it. My 360 is JP region anyways, and Sega published US games are somewhat hit and miss with being region locked anyways.
