24 Caret Games is about to release their first game and Retro/Grade has a neat hook. It’s a shooter, but you play it in reverse.
As described on the PlayStation Blog, Retro/Grade handles like a music game, a fitting description since you can play it with a guitar controller. To prevent a time paradox, you have to fly the ship into the right spots to shoot and dodge red lasers closing in from behind. Did you make a mistake? Grab a power up and you can shift the flow of time forward, essentially giving players a chance to correct their mistake when time goes back in reverse.
Retro/Grade may not fit in the conventional definition of a horizontal shooter, but it’s backed by a novel idea. Sort of like Fret Nice, which blended the platform genre with Guitar Hero, Retro/Grade will be a PlayStation Network game for PS3.

So it's a mix between Guitar Hero, Braid and Space Invaders?
But it doesn't really tickle my fancy. Being only able to move between five spaces, and also he fact that you need to be in a specific position to fire (where there are bullets, which conveniently are never in the same place as enemy bullets)… this is pretty much just a music game dressed as a shmup.

By the way, on the comments on the PSBlog, they're saying it's not due till 2010.
I have no idea why they decided to post about it so soon. Looks good though.

Thanks for this info! I was searching for a release date, but didn't see anything. 2010 is a bit far away. Perhaps, Sony wants people to be aware of it before a Comic-Con demo?

This could be awesome, but I've gotta level with you–I'm not too crazy about the design of the ship.

Boy, even “Indie” games are starting to try and sell on that damned pair of words: Guitar Hero. It's a rythm game. End of story. Aren't the guitar buttons mapped to real buttons? I bet I could play this with a DDR mat. Anyway, it still looks really fun but I have to agree on that ship design. I really hope there the guitar part ends up being fun. Maybe I'll buy a used one somewhere separate.
