Bubble Bobble Neo is crashing the Summer of Arcade party. Taito set August 5 as the release date for their four player remake of Bubble Bobble.

Officially, the date is just for Japan, but almost all Xbox Live Arcade games debut in North America simultaneously. Also, Taito has English menus ready so it’s not like they have to spend extra time translating anything either.

Bubble Bobble Neo will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10) and it looks like Taito has DLC planned for the future.

800MS points is ridiculous when it translates to about £7. I'm happy with the original.

I remember playing this on my Commodore 64. What a fucking awesome game. LOL.

Looks like a direct port of the WiiWare version. I wish they'd have gone for sprite based characters, but in motion it actually doesn't look too terrible.
  • That's one ugly game..
  • I usually don't mind HD remakes, but... you're right. It's ugly.

And what's the point of doing a (bad) perspective vision on the levels, if you're gonna use 2D sprites anyway? It just makes everything look awkward. The charas look like they are standing on the edge of the plane.

About the perspective thing: the original Bubble Bobble arcade game (which this is a remake of) does the same thing, as do Bubble Symphony and Bubble Memories. I'd understand if the perspective view looks awkward to you if you're more familiar with the NES version...

    Also, these are 3D models.
  • Didn't know the original did it too. I must have always thought of the NES version. Mh, I guess one never stops learning.

But I looked up some arcade screenshots on Google, and it's not as awkward as this. Maybe because it's a lot more noticeable with HD graphics.
