The Missing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Character Is…

By Spencer . July 27, 2009 . 9:50am

All of the playable characters from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will be in the North American version except for one. Who got cut?

“I guess it’s OK to tell everyone this now,” Ryota Niitsuma, Producer of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom said in an interview with Siliconera. “He’s [Hakushon Daimao] not in the game. We had some licensing issues with him so we weren’t able to obtain him for the American version.”

Hakushon Daimao is a genie and the lead character in a 1970s anime series. Capcom added him to the home version of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Unfortunately, Daimao and his math mini-game will remain in Japan. New characters will replace Daimao, but Niitsuma was careful not to reveal them at this time.

Look for the full interview with Niitsuma, which includes details about the network mode and answers to many of your questions later this week.

Honestly, I couldn’t care less. He is the only one I didn’t have any knowledge of and he also seemed the most out of place. ^_^; here is hoping the loss of one character gives us a, or many, awesome new combatants.

    • I really liked him because he WAS so out of place and wacky looking. :P

  • Yeah I for one am happy that he got cut he just didn’t fit in with the rest of the characters.

  • I think it’s a fair trade to actually have the game brought over.

    • Roto13

It’s a fair trade because he’ll be replaced with a new character. :P

  • Looks like Tingle if he put on a ton of weight, no great loss.

    • Rocketujuiso

Tingle’s not that bad of a character.

  • ElTopo

Yeah could really care less about this guy.

    • Hraesvelgr

      Why could you care less?

      • ElTopo

Its a random unappealing Japan only character that will probably go right over 98% of the western audience, and I doubt many people will be fretting over a math mini-game (yawn).

        • Suzero

          stay in school, kid~

  • Jay

I’m not exactly happy about it but I’m glad it was a console exclusive character like him instead of one of the people that actually mattered

  • let’s bet who is gonna be the new additions
    i’m betting for capcom:
    dead rising
    speed racer
    soul taker

    • Rocketujuiso

It should be Miles Edgeworth from Capcom. He’ll throw books at people, and everyone will wince at the stupid pun.

In reality, a Megaman series character would be nice. Even an X or a Zero.

      • SoulStraw

Then what series are that robot girl with the broom and that blue armored kid with the machine guns from?

  • AQuatermain

¡Noooooo! ;_; I saw the original anime several years ago.

  • Anonymous

I saw him in gameplay and I really didn’t like him for some reason.

  • Gerwalk

Man, what a shame! His anime has quite a bit of a fanbase here in Europe, due to it being shown between various countries’ morning cartoons ten years or more ago.
He was called “Bob der Flaschengeist” in Germany. I even remember his German themesong…

  • thaKingRocka

that character is filthy and disgusting. the american consumer wins!

    • CrisSpiegel

Wow, I thought this character was famous in the West. I have good memories of me watching the cartoon as a kid. This Hakushon Daimao guy is well known in Brazil. Many japanese shows we had here until some time in the 90’s were mostly unknown to Americans, so I understand that.

      • thaKingRocka

yeah, japan and brazil have a very interesting relationship. when i was living in japan, i was really surprised to find such a huge brazilian population. it was just in time for the 2002 world cup though, so it worked out nicely.

      • apart from tv tupi (a enterprise from the 70s)broadcasting the anime along with many other tatsunoko production mostly because they share the style with the great hq that there is here wich is called turma da mônica and is published even in japan… the character isn’t very famous here =.=
