Final Fantasy IV Summoned For Virtual Console

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years just launched on WiiWare in Japan. As a clever tie-in, Square Enix is releasing Final Fantasy IV as a Virtual Console game next month.

Final Fantasy IV tells the story of Cecil, a dark knight who becomes a paladin, and flies to the moon. You can relive the uncut adventure (remember the dancer?) if you have a Japanese Wii and 900 Wii Points ($9). Even though Final Fantasy IV costs 100 Wii Points ($1) more than the average Super Nintendo game it’s a good deal.

Other than Square Enix’s monthly Final Fantasy game there isn’t much to see. Nintendo is pretty much pulling the plug on the Virtual Console platform.

Here’s the full list. Games marked with an asterisk are scheduled for release on August 4.

Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey Bu

Super Famicom
Final Fantasy IV* (900)

Mega Drive
Pepenga Pengo
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure*

Virtual Console Arcade
Cosmo Gang The Video

Going straight from ff1 to this blew my mind….this game is all class. I hope the original 1989 american dragon warrior get’s released on vc.

  • I remember.

I also remember waking up as a pig.

  • Pulling the plug? But the virtual console is one of the Wii’s best features…

Oh, snap! How is Pengo not the headliner?!

Hours of my life were spent in the summoned monsters cave and the sylph cave. I have also bought all the remakes and have beaten them withing a matter of 3-4 days. I remember everything about this game as it is my favorite Final Fantasy of the bunch. So is there any word on a US VC release?

It was confirmed but who knows when. We’re still waiting on FF1 even. :/

  • PLEASE tell me “Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey Bu” is coming to the US VC even if it’s in Japanese.

I would buy this… if I didn’t already have FF4 for the GBA. And the DS remake. So uh… yeah.
