Hidden Art From Square Enix’s Latest Countdown

By Spencer . July 31, 2009 . 12:28am

image Square Enix is counting down to something… again. A full reveal is scheduled next week on August 7, but we have something more substantial than a clock.

Digging through the counter’s files we obtained a few pieces of art from the unannounced project. There’s a wolf-like creature and a winged entity.

We also know about two unused Square Enix trademarks: Gyromancer and Lord of Arcana. The latter sounds like a home version of Lord of Vermillion, a Square Enix developed arcade game that uses physical cards. The art style reminds me of Lord of Vermillion too…

I wish someone would make countdowns illegal. I’m getting tired of this. I’ll wait for the usual leaked magazine scan.

    • dv8shun

I think 90% of flash sites should be made illegal.

      • Rciwws

Nobody is making you look at them people. Choose your battles.

Also on the “should be made illegal” list, serious responses to hyperbole, joke posts.

It’s undoubtedly Lord of Vermillion related but I think it’s a sequel, Lord of Vermillion was pretty successful.

Could also be a DSi conversion or Natal/PSEye port?

As an aside, most people don’t know, but the arcade game was outsourced to Think Garage. They also did the Itadaki Street PS2/PSP/DS games and Sigma Harmonics for SE.

Agreed, I can’t stand these stupid countdowns. As for the art shown well, I agree with Spencer that it does look like lords of vermillion (and probably is) but I think I will just keep telling my self its a Vagrant Story sequel.

I was never into card games like Magic or Eye of Judgment, but I would get the camera and Vermillion game just for the nice arts illustrated by the various famous artists. Actually the projection of monsters into 3D on the screen in Eye of Judgment is kind of cool.

    I also got this:http://i29.tinypic.com/k3ovi8.png
If someone who can read japanese translate it…

I love teaser sites. Just building up hype and finding out a few days later seems fun to me…

Anyways, I’m thinking it is a home version of Lord of Vermilion also. Well at least, I hope it is! The game looks so awesome… And the fact that they have so many artists involved is also a plus. That would take a lot of licensing though wouldn’t it?

    If it’s not LoV then maybe… August SEVENTH… SEVEN days… FF… VII… Remake? Haha I wish…

The sad part is, the post has a tag for ‘countdown’ which speaks to me that there are way too many in existence that they warrant their own tag. u___U

  • Name

to be totally fair, lord of vermillion used art from pretty much every artist square has contacts with and then some. i’m expecting a home lov port eventually, but i could see this being something new.

Drakengard 3? Hm. Doubt so though.

  • randomguy239

I dunno.. Could still be FFVII.. first pic has a bit of a Red XIII look to it, and second could potentially be the “Face of Jenova” from the Nibelheim reactor.
