Sony Sculpts Giant SandStation 3

Donghae City was the held the first Korean Invitational World Sand Sculpting Championship. What does this have to with video games? Sony Computer Entertainment Korea showed up and joined the sand sculpting fun.

That’s what SCEK made and they seem quite proud of it since they sent out a news bulletin reporting their marketing stunt.

That's cool, but golly, I feel bad for the PS3 that was put in the sand. Hopefully it was just a shell! I hesitate to even take my phone onto the beach. That stuff gets eeeeverywhere.

    Who cares there's hot chicks.

That blue PSP and white controller sure does look sexy.
Were they a sponsor or something and did a lil advertising? Or was SCEK actually a contestant?

  • Ereek

That's pretty cool. Next an Ice sculpture?

Sony really needs to stop all their PR and spend the money developing more games for their systems.

I mean, great, they just spend probably $30,000 that convinced no one at the beach festival to go buy a PSP or PS3. I mean, really, does sand castle advertising work? Maybe for cheap stuff near a beach (like fast food), but high priced electronics that you can't use at the beach (even the PSP would be a risk there, sand in the UMD drive? If they had advertised a PSPGo, maybe, but they didn't)?

Okay, that money obviously wouldn't have made a AAA (or even A) title. But put together with all their other stupid promos, it adds up. And they could be funding indy developers on PSN. Or something even remotely productive.

I wonder if those white “Playstation” letters and that logo are physically there, or if they were photoshopped in. On one hand, they look like they're just floating there, but then again, they're on different angles in the two shots.

  • noookie

i think the letters are “floating” . letters on little pins pushed on to the sand. so the angle of the shadows suggest.

Nice PS3 sculpture. I hope that is not a real PS3 next to the big one since electronics and sand don't mix very well.

The chicks look pretty good, too. : )
