Lionhead and Microsoft are testing a new way to re-release RPGs with Fable II. The full game is going to be chopped up into five Fable II: Game Episodes which will be released as digital downloads on September 29.
The first episode takes players up to the young adult phase and will be a free download. Once the episode ends players can purchase the next episode or the full game. Basically, the first “episode” is a demo and a gateway into Albion.
Fable II: Game Episodes’ save files are compatible with the retail version of Fable II and all future downloadable content. Microsoft has not announced pricing for Fable II: Game Episodes or the Games on Demand version. Many retailers are selling Fable II for around $40 so I expect the digital version to be cheaper.
