Sony Gives PlayStation 3 Box Art A Makeover

To keep branding consistent, Sony updated the design of their PlayStation 3 boxes to match the slim PlayStation 3.

Gundam Senki uses the new design which drops the Spider-Man font and sidebar. Revised boxes have a horizontal header with the slim PS3 font and a PlayStation Network logo if the game has online play. Doesn’t seem like there’s much room for an “only on PlayStation” stamp, though. Japanese PlayStation 3 games don’t get that label so Sony may alter the design one more time.

The PS3 seems, as a whole, to be giving itself quite a makeover. Because it started with the Spiderman font, I know I'll end up missing it, but I suppose the newer design looks more like a Playstation 2 game. I liked the Playstation 3 logo on the side though, it reminded me of the original Playstation.

It's not that it's bad, it's just that I'm one of those people that sometimes has problems with small changes that I've come to be used to.

It's funny I never thought of the old font as “Spidey” font until people brought it up.. So they really ditched the colored logo for the gray one..

Looks nice…I guess… I kinda miss it being on the side of the case though, it reminded me of PS1 cases.

Oh no, how will we survive without the YOU'RE PLAYING THIS PLAYSTATION GAME ON A PLAYSTATION stamp?

Uh… so now they look kind of like PSP games. Great? PS3 Slim is ugly though, so I guess it goes along with that ugliness.

I'd actually be happy if it was more like a PSP box. PSP UMDs definitely have a great box, probably my favorite of any box in any gen. Unfortunately, the new PS3 box does not look like a PSP box. It still has that annoying and pointless clear plastic on the top. It looks more like a PS2 box, really.

My only gripe with the PSP box is that there's a single clip holding the manual in. That's not enough to hold a manual.
