How Skip Mode Streamlines Personas Battles I encountered many monsters in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona. Partially, by choice — gotta max out each Persona before switching to a new one. When I wanted a fight I never had trouble finding one because Persona has a high encounter rate.

 

Since running is (mostly) futile expect to fight… a lot.

 

Fortunately, there is a way to blitz through battles. Pressing start during a fight activates “skip mode”, the best new feature in the remastered Shin Megami Tensei: Persona interface. When activated, the game speeds up sprite animations and skips elements persona summoning sequences. However, your character still stands there for a second as if s/he was summoning a phantom persona. Strange, but acceptable since skip mode greatly shortens the time between rounds.

 

Sure you can’t enjoy spell effects as they blaze by and you won’t hear sound bites like the protagonist bellowing “Persona!!” in skip mode. But, do you really want to see Elly summon Nike a couple hundred times?

 

If you do then leave skip mode off. If you want to move the story along or speed up grind sessions give skip mode a chance. It’s an impressive feature and an option more remastered RPGs should add in.

    I´ve been trough Yukari saying Persona more than a couple of hundred times so I think I´ll manage :p

    I think people are underestimating the amount of random battles you get into. Watching the animations is cool the first couple of times, but then by the 100th time in the same dungeon against the same enemies it gets old.

    I forget, is there an estoma spell in P1, if so I expect that to be used often.

    That’s a highly smart idea, even though Pokemon games have a similar feature in which you turn off battle animations; But that’s kind of flawed, since you’d have to just read the text and then look at the pokemon’s life bars to see what happens. I think just accelerating animations is the best choice.

    Playing the Japanese version I quite enjoy the sound bites during battle, and noticed that the American ones are different. But, you’re right anyway that the Skip option is so simple that there’s really nothing to complain about. Suppose the only gripe about it is figuring out commands that allow you to skip as many battles in a row without having to change them. Definitely found myself wasting turns with Mark (forgot his name already) because his range was too short after his first attack. Thankfully, these “problems” can be fixed by being proactive.

    The PSP Disgaeas had a feature like this, but if I remember correctly, you had to set it in the options first. But Disgaea 3 had a really good version of the skip function. In addition to being able to set it in the options, whenever you hold L2 (or R2, I forget which), all animations will skip through. And for a series like Disgaea, you’d really need it.
