Square Enix Making PlayStation Minis?

By Spencer . August 25, 2009 . 11:31am

image The PlayStation Minis program was announced last week with a handful of titles from small studios, indie developers, and Tetris from Electronic Arts.

You might want to add Square Enix to the list.

The RPG juggernaut is porting Crystal Defenders, their Final Fantasy Tactics A2 themed tower defense game, to the PSP according to the USK. Crystal Defenders first appeared on the iPhone. Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 versions came at a later date.

Perhaps, PlayStation Minis can be a home for Square Enix’s library of Japan-only cell phone games. Compact titles like ports of Final Fantasy Legend and Secret of Mana, as well as made for mobile games such as Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Lost Episode and Kingdom Hearts Coded would be a good fit for the platform.

Seems more like it will be a home for iPhone ports. Cell phone ports would require an actual effort. Maybe later in its life, should it turn out to be successful.

Well atleast Sony is going after people to support this new software service. Unlike Nintendo, whos DSi service is the biggest joke no ones heard of. Seriously what are they/were they thinking the DSi’s whole purpose (outside of remilking their most loyal) was downloads, they don’t even let you download the demos from it. So far all you have is a bunch of cut up titles from previous releases like Wario ware and that stupid magic game, some super simple puzzlers and some “totally nifty” clock, calendar and calculator apps. Personally I would love to see Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode, Before Cirsis, Kindom Hearts end up on the PSP, they belong on the PSP and deserve proper releases just like Agito and Parasite Eve.
