Microsoft Drops Xbox 360 Elite Price, Phases Out Pro ModelStarting on August 28, the Xbox 360 Elite will retail for $299.99, a $100 less than the current price. The Xbox 360 Elite includes a 120 GB hard drive, double the storage space of the standard Xbox 360 Pro unit.

Microsoft will also cut the price of the Xbox 360 Pro console from $299.99 to $249.99 “while supplies last”, indicating that the mid-range model with a 60 GB hard drive will be no more. The hard drive-less Xbox 360 Arcade will continue to retail for $199.99.

I think I'll buy one when they're around 100$…and why the hell would they cut the pro system and leave that bullsh*t arcade system still on the market. Probably more overheard for M$ I guess…

I wonder if all the Elites have the new Jasper chip. If I have gotten my arcade bundle a yr ago at $180 compared to $400 (I even bought a separate black controller), I'd be so getting this w/ the chrome tray and 120Gb.

I'm still holding out for a slim Xbox 360 that doesn't break, but $300 for an elite is mighty tempting… but no! it would be foolish for me to buy one now! I must hold out longer!

I thought about that possibility too, I wonder if the 360 would actually go thru a makeover like the PS2 and 3 did. I'm not sure how well the Jasper has taken care of the RRoD problem, design-wise, I have to hand it to the team, I think they did a very good job w/ the 360's aesthetics, looks good both lying down and standing up,. Fat PS3 while elegant is a big grill (which helps dissipates heat I guess), and Slim just doesn't look very good at all.

I'm not too bothered by the PS3 slim design, I think it has a very retro-console look to it. Like a Turbo duo or Saturn haha.

But yeah, I'm really hoping for a 360 redesign, it's not that the current model looks bad or anything, just that I feel it's been around for so long that buying one now isn't the smartest idea.

If a redesign never happens, and they release a whole new console, then I'll pick up a 360 for sure haha, I mean I really just want to play Lost Odyssey and a few of the Japanese Shooters.

I guess the PS3 slim looks kind of okay the more I look at it, but it still doesn't feel the same when PS2 slim came out and people go, “that looks a lot better than the old one!” Nevertheless, I'm still tempted to get it even though I own the original 60Gb (w/ 320 HDD now), but I would fight my impulse and think about my actual need. Just to put it in perspective, $300 is a bargain for a blu-ray player + next-gen game system.

Maybe you should wait and see, but you need to get a 360. I'm surprised how much I play it compared to PS3 which I mostly just watch Blu-rays w/. Originally I got it for the Jpn RPGs, then I got hooked by all the FPS/TPS and import shmups, two genres that I wasn't very big at first, and now all these various arcade and indie games. If you like the old school turn based RPG w/ good music and story, you have to play Lost Odyssey, it's my favorite next gen RPG. I believe the next one would be FF13.

Yeah man, I hear ya. I'm just waiting for the right moment.

I'd actually be more leery of a redesigned 360 than one of the current models given Microsoft's past problems. They seem to have worked out most of the bugs, but hardware is not their forte. A new, smaller model might just be an opportunity for some other issue like RRoD to appear again.

I wonder if all the Elites out there have the new Jasper chip now. I got the Arcade a year ago because at the time it was the only model I was sure had a Jasper, also price was $180 compared to $400, even bought a separate black controller. Otherwise I'd be so getting this w/ the chrome tray and 120Gb. Still, this lacks Wi-fi out of the box compared to the new PS3 slim. Both are great systems though, at this price it's a give away.
