Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Coming Out This Year

The last thing we heard was Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep would be in stores “this winter”. Square Enix updated the time frame, which could have been a vague way of saying February 2010, to “2009″ as seen in the publicly released trailer on the official website.

And here are a ton of tiny screenshots showing the game’s various worlds. New areas based on Snow White, Cinderella, and Lilo & Stitch are confirmed for the game. The battle system, from when I played Birth By Sleep, takes elements from Kingdom Hearts II and adds elemental transformations. When you end a series of combos with, say a fire spell, Terra can shift into Fire Blazer mode which gives him a new set of attacks.

The graphics look amazing. I'm very, very impressed and I typically don't care about graphics in my games. I'm looking forward to BbS far more than Days.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get this game. On one hand, Kingdom Hearts has fantastic production value. On the other hand, the combat has so many problems. I got through I because I liked having to find my way through all these weird maze-like dungeons, and I liked the platforming. I quit halfway through II because they eliminated the platform and the combat seemed like I was winning every boss fight by just hitting triangle over and over. Since I seem to be one of the few gamers who still plays mostly for the gameplay, this is a huge problem to me.
I'll be open minded about a new Kingdom Hearts game, but unless there's something for my brain to do while my eyes are getting their sugar fix (Like there was in I), I probably won't get it.

nah. i think they fixed the one button mash thing. i see circle and square buttons on some gameplay vids but yeah after the 2nd installment, i'm kinda lost my interest.

I didn't really care about KH 358/2 days on the DS. But this makes me want to go back to finish KH2 and then play this (I'm so behind), seems like another gem on the PSP. Snow White, Cinderalla, and and the new girl all seem very cool. I have never watched Lilo & Stitch…

I've never played a single Kingdom Hearts game, except I don't know if Chain of Memories count. Will this game still make sense to me? If it does I probably will strongly consider getting it.

As far as I'm aware, BbS takes place before the events of the first Kingdom Hearts, so it might.
