Disgaea Infinite In Development For PSN

By Spencer . September 11, 2009 . 7:38am

image Nippon Ichi is working on a downloadable Disgaea game titled Disgaea Infinite and it’s going to be revealed at Tokyo Game Show.

The title was leaked on Sony’s Tokyo Game Show list, but there seems to be some confusion on which system Disgaea Infinite is coming to. Sony says it’s a PS3 game while Famitsu lists Disgaea Infinite for PSP.

Thexder NEO and the PSP version of Crystal Defenders, both of which leaked earlier, will be at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show booth too.

Interesting. As long as it's for a system I currently own, I'll be happy!

Going digital is a big no-no for me, if they don't release a retail version I'll pass.
  • Don't worry. My magic crystal ball tells me signs are pointing to 'yes' for a retail version... but I won't say which entertainment device. The crystal ball gets jealous when I don't play with it.
  • ElTopo
    I second that.

And Disgaea was good and all, but how many more games you think they can irk out before this franchise is milked dry?
  • Don't know, lets ask Square and Final Fantasy.
  • ElTopo
At least those are typically unique games (plot, cast, graphics, console, battle system, worlds, etc typically all change. Still classic style RPGs but they differ heavily from one another.) that share a common moniker, where as here...
  • Yeah true I know what your getting at -- Although, I don't think Disgaea has necessarily worked itself dry (although it's making good time), it still has unique plots, cast, and worlds in each game as much as most other games, it's not about to drop a great visual look, (isn't console is kind of irrelevant?). But yeah I know what your getting at lol, Final Fantasy goes for a more full blown unique experience each title. Nippon Ichi definitely plays around the guidelines of the engine they've created.

Judging from the scans this probably isn't Disgaea 4. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if this was re-release of Disgaea as a PSN title.
  • BK0000
It's a visual novel that's apparently based on the first Disgaea's story.
  • Er... I don't know about you, but I welcome Disgaea games. They're always funny and when have they ever offered anything other than an amount of playability that contends with most MMORPGs? Almost everything Nippon Ichi makes is a massive game, filled with more content than 15 Madden games end-on-end.

So yeah, I'd say they can make as many of these games as they feel like making as long as they retain the depth they've always had.
  • ElTopo
I'll jump on for a new one when they re-invent the series, changing up the cast and plot isn't doing enough for me, err and while the games are long, I wouldn't say they offer content equivalent to an MMO...at all. But that's an entirely different game and genre so I wouldn't compare then anyways.
  • Yeah really I think Disgaea is made of the right stuff, it's a series that's not afraid to have fun with it's stories and characters. There always super enjoyable, infact I'm very much awaiting the announcement for the next Disgaea game, and/or a new Makai Kingdom T_T!!

I'm guessing this is going to be one of those small games, like Crystal Defenders for PSP. A PSP Mini. Can't wait to see what the gameplay is like, though! <3 Disgaea anything!
  • Marcus70
IGN lists this Disgaea game as a PSP game as well. Would be nice if this game was a PS3 game, so I could play while I wait for Disgaea 4 (I'm hoping a 2011 release :) ).

Here's an article for Disgaea Infinite from one of the Japanese game magazines:

    Apparently, it's a visual novel.
  • RyuRyuRan
Definitely looks like something I'd want to add to my collection. I've gone from being a huge Final Fantasy fan for over 10 years to a huge Disgaea fan and Square-Enix hater, lol.
  • Gestahl
Same here, mate. Will import it if there are no news about the English localization next year.
  • BK0000
Why? It's a visual novel. It's not like there's going to be any real gameplay in it. It will be a waste of money to import.
  • Gestahl
Like there's no real gameplay in the Ace Attorney games, right?
  • BK0000
There isn't much. That's why they're so boring.
  • ElTopo
Visual novel, of the first game? The first game was practically a visual novel in and of itself (those cutscenes and monologues).
  • cowcow
aaargh i hate visual novels. Worst video game genre there is.
  • Did anyone laugh at the shot in the bottom right of that image or was it just me?
  • shirokiryuu
Sounds pretty cool, I absolutely love Disgaea characters and the little scenerios they have. It's a nice sort of "side" game.

If the price is reasonable and fully voiced I'll defintely get it.
  • lostinblue
I smell a game based off the item world or something. without a plot and without an end.
  • Another version of Disgaea?
That would make it the fourth version of the same game instead of developing a new one.

When did NIS turn into Square-Enix who has to milk it´s franchise to it´s dry?

I don´t know. Sure I will not say anything about getting or not getting at this point but if it really is a another version of the very first Disgaea then I see no reason to get it.

If it is a new game based on the Disgaea storyline and characters, then I don´t know. I need gameplay to decide that.
