Bayonetta Built On Xbox 360, Ported To PS3

Bayonetta Built On Xbox 360, Ported To PS3 After a scathing report about the PlayStation 3 version of Bayonetta, Tatsuya Minami, President of PlatinumGames, candidly explained they didn’t handle the PS3 version.

With Bayonetta, we created the Xbox 360 version of the game first, and then handed off all the data and other assets to SEGA so they could begin the process of porting Bayonetta to the PS3, giving them advice regarding the porting process along the way and overseeing the progress to ensure that the PS3 version would be the best it could be.

While the port, good or bad, was done at Sega, Minami says PlatinumGames “have overseen both versions.” Previously, Sega only brought the Xbox 360 build to press events. Sega will have the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions on display at Tokyo Game Show. Minami urges Bayonetta followers to play both and make a decision for themselves.

A better strategy would be releasing that Bayonetta demo on both consoles for everyone, you know, not at Tokyo Game Show to try. Before October 29 would be fantastic, that way we know if we should import or not.

Bayonetta is scheduled to come out here in January 2010.

Definitely a good idea to put the demo up on both systems for comparison. Usually I prefer the 360 pad for most games, but I would choose the PS3 for exclusive content, like the Joker challengers for Batman Arkham. Like w/ RE5, I tried both and preferred playing it on 360 to PS3.

The cover up there is very stylish w/ Bayonetta's back (or buns :) The new “PS3″ logo kind of grows on me too.

  • Gundam_exia

    wow, that really sucks.

  • TheCleaningGuy

Hopefully the PS3 version is good, because the 360 demo I played at PAX was awesome. I've got faith in Sega, so I'm not too worried about the PS3 incarnation (which I'll be getting). I can't wait for the demo, though!

  • TTTT

I played the PS3 demo at the Bayonetta party in Tokyo and thought it was awesome. But, I was not pixel counting. I saw the 360 build there also and nothing struck me as different although did not play it.

  • TTTT

interesting. I like the ps controller for most all games except first person shooters which is better with the 360 controller.

BTW, I mentioned below that I played the ps3 build and that it didnt not seem inferior. but, I wasnt really looking well enough I guess I was just trying not to embarrass myself by playing so poorly.

  • Aoshi00

I thought the 360 controller's analog stick is better for FPS/TPS too, games that require aiming like GTA4, RE5, etc, even works well w/ shmups. The thing is I really like how sturdy it feels. It seems that for most multiplatform titles so far, 360 version tends to look crisper while PS3 looks smoother but slightly blurrier..

I'd have to wait for the verdict and see. If the PS3 version is identical in every way, then the Dual Shock 3 might be better fit for this kind of DMC action games to pull off quick combos. But this news is not very reassuring, probably safer to go w/ the original than the port if one has both systems.

certainly is always best to get for the lead machine it was developed for. I am “between 360s” now meaning I sold my non-HDMI one before the price drop hit and the stores readjusted how much they would pay me. Plus, I got a limited edition PS3 empty case for Bayonetta so I am “stuck” to the PS3 version. I am going to hold out til 2010 fall to buy my next 360.

I heard RE5 was looking a lot better on 360 from a friend who had both versions.
it is hard for me to judge, my ps3 games always looked better but I have an HDMI connection for PS3 and had a “D-tanshi” connection for 360

  • Aoshi00

Yeah, at first I decided to get RE5 on PS3 since all the old games were on PS, but luckily I came across this comprehensive comparison, they said water looks crappy in the swamp stage on PS3, and 360 has clear advantage w/ just about everything, from grahics to better load time and controller. That's what I don't like about multiplatform, I always feel the need to do research so I wouldn't accidentally get the inferior version, if it indeed exists.

My Jpn 360 is also an old one too and only has component connection (I thought component and D-Terminal are comparable to HDMI except w/ messier cables?) Only my US one is the quieter Jasper w/ HDMI, I wish I could upgrade my Jpn system too, the brick is a bit noisy, at least it doesn't get hot w/ HDD install. So you are waiting for the inevitable “250gb” huh? I wish I have a Elite to go w/ the black Magna Carta 2 faceplate, both my systems are white :(…

  • malek86

Yes. There is no discernible difference between HDMI and Component, even at 1080p (can't say about D-Terminal since I've never tried it, but I guess it would be the same). If you try really hard, you might find that HDMI is a tad bit better, especially on big TVs… the difference lies on the TV used. Or in the source.

  • TTTT

yeah, the D-terminal is a Japan only(I believe) kind of pre-HDMI cable that is video only meaning you have the regular two prong red/white for audio. I believe it is 720p/1080i not 1080p. My PSX(Japan only ps2 with HDD and DVD writer) had it and that is how I connect to my old CRT TV.

I am holding out for fall 2010 because ps3 will keep me busy and I am hoping for a quieter smaller build without the massive power cord. It kind of seems like they will do a 360 relaunch with NATAL(even though I dont want the natal piece) which will mean a leaner piece of hardware I am hoping. and there is not THAT much coming on on 360 now that I am dying for so I can wait.

  • TheCleaningGuy

That's good to hear, thanks! I wish I could have been to the Bayonetta party, but alas, I'm stick in Seattle. That must have been awesome though!

Don't worry, the game's nothing special anyway.

  • thebanditking

Can't say I like hearing this kind of stuff, I get games on whatever platform I choose but certain types of games I prefer on a Dualshock, and DMC type games are one of them. I was torn between what to buy DMC4 on until I played it on both, a lack or trophies and 5GB install be damned I would rather chew nails then play a game that uses those 360 bumpers constantly(the wrist pain!), its like buying a fighting game on 360 and using the D-pad, its nearly impossible.

I don't see why this game would have a problem running on PS3, the graphics are nothing special 60FPS or not. I think it all comes down to developer skill, when most of these guys were at Capcom they had all those resources to pull from so making games work properly was not an issue, but now on their own the more PC like 360 is probably a good fit for small developers.

Though in the end this could all be quite overblown, this will all come down to who at Sega did the port. If it was Sonic Team PS3 owners might as well forget this game, lol.

    edit

  • thebanditking

Yeah I do the same thing, though in reality doing the research is just being a smart buyer. Though I must say RE5 was a hard choice (I ended up choosing PS3) because for every advantage one had there was a draw back. I found the aiming to be better on 360 but the bumpers (as I stated before) I find horrible to use repeatedly. Yes the 360 version has better effects but it also has a green hue to it, while the PS3s look was more natural. Then it came down to the PS3 has frame rate drops but the 360 has screen tearing, which while I hate both I can work around a few dropped frames but when aiming screen tearing messes me all up. If the differences in Bayonetta are like RE5 then no one will end up with a bad game, it will just come down to preference for multi-console owners.

I, too, have been stuck with all these problems. I have my J-360 going through component cables but I'd really like to upgrade to an HDMI system. I've been pondering selling it but everyone thinks something is wrong with it because I want to buy another 360 with the money.

I love the PS3, don't get me wrong, but I have not bought ONE game that was cross platform for the PS3 over my 360 yet, which is the opposite of last generation. Everything was bought for my PS2 other than Obscure (Xbox :P). I was always a fan of the PS2 controller but I'd take those bumpers on 360 controller (maybe because I'm use to them now) over the annoying L2/R2 shoulders on the PS3 controllers.

    @malek86
For me, my Samsung TV has different vid settings for each video source and I've used sites to correctly color/set up my HDMI/game slot but the component slot looks a lot worse as the settings are actually different/require more work. So for me and my TV it happens to be a huge difference between component and HDMI. Too bad my VGA needs some work to have sound on it – I need to look into that and my Samsung because I can't get sound just plugging in the Red/White audio cables.

I want to say that the DMC4 required install is what pushed me to the 360 purchase, starting my domino effect of SH:Homecoming, etc. on the 360. I'm just curious if I'm in the minority for the 360 controller. It's absolutely terrible as far as D-pads go, I agree, but I am totally use to the bumpers at this point and can't adjust to those new L2/R2 buttons on the PS3 controller even though I played PS2 daily forever! Long time DMC fan and I didn't have a single problem with the game on all modes. Perhaps I'm lucky and adjusted (but can't seem to put the time to adjust to the PS3), have you coped with those shoulder buttons yet? Lol, help! I want to love my PS3 and the controller… Maybe Demon's Souls will force me to “level up” my PS3 controller preference as I'll be on it for hours on end, surely.

  • thebanditking

As far as the L2/R2 go if you dont like them that much those Real Triggers really help for those who dont like the DS3's triggers and at 5 bucks they are worth a try. Alot of people I know who did not like them felt different after trying those. As for the 360 pad maybe you have bigger hands then I do but for me the arc my hand has to make to push them is just uncomfortable, its not so bad for my left hand which has the analog stick placed higher thus my thumb is almost verticle while playing making it easier to hit the LB. My right hand gets all cramped though because my thumb is horizontal most of the time (on the other stick) and my index finger just does not move vertically enough for it to be comfortable.

I think I just need to give it some more play. My PS3 hasn't gotten too much play but I've gone back to playing all the PS3 games I picked up over the past year or so. I have small, skinny hands as far as I know, so I don't really have a good explanation. I might borrow those triggers from a friend to test them out. I might not like how far down they dip, perhaps? Either way, it's simply due to the lack of use and the fact that I still play lots of my import stuff on my JPS2 to this day, so I'm often using a PS2 controller to contrast. Thanks for the advice!
