Nintendo Officially Announces Wii Price Cut

By Spencer . September 23, 2009 . 7:04pm

Nintendo Officially Announces Wii Price Cut Nintendo confirmed what tons of leaked retail fliers told us, the Wii will be priced at $199.99 beginning this Sunday.  The now $50 cheaper Wii still comes bundled with Wii Sports, one remote, and a nunchuck.

“Wii has reached more video game players than any game system before because it attracts everyone—both men and women, and people of all ages,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Our research shows there are 50 million Americans thinking about becoming gamers, and this more affordable price point and our vast array of new software mean many of them can now make the leap and find experiences that appeal to them, whatever their tastes or level of gaming experience.”

Anyone without a Wii thinking of buying one now?

WOW. I thought big “N” had too big a head to drop the price on their system.
Bravo. Maybe I'll buy a few for family & friends this Christmas.

Buy them a system they'll actually use.

The price war is really getting going isn't it, and PS3 still has the best package at $300. Wonder if Jpn would follow suit for Wii's new pricing. Guess good thing comes to those who wait.

I just bought an Elite w/ the $50 rebate (too bad I missed the Dell 15% off deal, guess everyone jumped on it..). If anyone wants to unload from me a like new Jasper chip arcade system w/ 20Gb HDD, shoot me an e-mail (aoshi00@hotmail.com) w/ an offer, I'm willing to let it go for ~$150, or ~$180 w/ the HDD. Otherwise I'll decide btwn giving it to my sis, some cancer stricken kid, or use it to watch Netflix in a different room.

I actually sold my PS3 recently since it was so hard to give away. :))
Do you actually know of a consoles for cancer kids type of charity? I'd like to keep it in mind for the furure.
I pondered donating it to Goodwill, but my sister claims that she heard that only 10% of their proceeds go to charity, so I changed my mind. (Though admittedly I am not certain of this).

  • Aoshi00

I'm not sure how the charity works either, but I remember hearing about people giving away consoles to sick kids since playing games could potentially make them feel better. I hope it's not some administrator hogging it in the staff lounge, lol. Now I'm just spread the word thru friends. Gamestop only gives $70, a ripoff as usual..

    Ebay.

  • Aoshi00

I know, it's been years since I put things on ebay and I'm kind of lazy to do it. I'm just asking actual friends first so I could just hand it to them instead of shipping and stuff, but might resort to ebay if no one is interested.

What about South America or something, I wonder? There has to be some good way of getting the things we don't need into the hands of people that can't afford them.

It's a shame the handhelds haven't had a price war. I guess blame the DS for having a stranglehold. But sheesh, the PSPGO is basically now pricier than a Wii, tied with a 360 (with that deal anyway), and only $50 cheaper than a PS3.

And how much is a DSi? $150? That's pretty close to the Wii, too (as is the regular PSP at $169, where it's been for what, 2 years?)

Anyway, I have zero interest in a Wii, MS's Natal, or Sony's waggle wand, whatever it's called. I'm still not crazy over the d-pad and analog stick over the joystick and paddle.

(Incidently, one of only PSP minis I've seen a lot about, BreakQuest, is a super version of BreakOut (later popularized by Arkanoid). But I can't imagine how it's possible to play without a paddle, I tried playing BreakOut on the PSP and it's almost impossible. Even the easiest starting ball on the first screen, I would miss more times than not).

A nice gesture, alas I was only half kidding :).. I think my sis would have something to say before I gave to a hospital or Pedro, she's been bugging me about Lost Odyssey.. but man, you really feel the need to give away your PS3? It's got some dang good games on it. I'll see if I could recoup some of the cost for my elite first.
