image Square Enix compressed Final Fantasy VIII into a 1815MB file that works on your PlayStation 3 and PSP.

You can get Squall’s guardian force summoning adventure for 1,500 yen ($16) on Japan’s PlayStation Store. Other games out this week include: Theme Aquarium, Theme Park, 1 on 1, Epic Stella, Japan Pro Mahjong League, and Pandora Max Vol. 3: Rubbish Blazon.

Rubbish Blazon? It’s some kind of comedy RPG.

Awesome! FF8 really is kind of underappreciated. Now we just need that US PSN tweakjob.

    • Ereek

Definitely. I really enjoyed FFVIII, even if I wasn’t the biggest fan of Disks 3 and 4. If it gets an English re-release I’ll get it, since my copy is worn out.

    • cowcow

      It’s my favorite FF game

      • thebanditking

I agree with all of you, FF8 is my favorite in the series, and is underappreciated. Usually lost in between the “I love FF7 and FF9 was stupid” and the “FF9 was awesome and FF7 was stupid” groups. Why can’t we have this too? I wonder if they are going to wait for FF13’s launch over here?

  • Trotmeister

Yeah, I recall summons being totally broken in this game. Not to mention certain character’s Limit ability that instantly kills any enemy including the final boss.

    • fallen

A limit break that kills Ultimecia? What?

      • Trotmeister

        You better believe it!

        • ForeverFidelis

          What’s it called? :o

          • eid

Yeah, its really sweet! I cant remember the name, oh wait, I think it was called “nothing.” …Yeah making up stuff to sound cool or feel wanted by your parents is awesome.

  • *____* FF gotta have them all FF!

No really T__T my discs are practally new but dont seem to work in ps3 «« its the only FF that dosent «« (from ps1 ofc) and my psp loves some ff 2 XD !

    • VIII is easily my favourite of the lot so far. I’m still tempted to pop my PC version in from time to time. XD

Really loved/hated this game. I actually spent 80 hours on it (it was a period where I just had to complete any FF game… yes, even FFX-2), but toward the end it was just painful. I don’t want to draw anymore magic from an enemy as long as I live.

But I’ll admit, Triple Triad was pretty good. Much better than that Tetra thing in FF9.

    • Hey… FFX-2 wasn’t that bad. :( Haha, and yes Triple Triad-if they made a DL game of JUST that, I’d totally pick it up. I bought a box of the physical cards but no one ever plays with me.

      • lucy1986

Yes! I spent hours on Triple Triad alone. I think they could make a whole game based on the same principles.

I bought the cards too….nobody else I know did. :(

I liked VIII okay, loved IX as they went back to the fantasy setting after VI. I also remember hating drawing/stocking magic and the summoning (GF) system. I liked FF X-2’s fast paced battle system though, despite how one might feel about the continuation of X’s story and the funny costumes, it was fun for me.

This would be $10 when it comes stateside, just like VII. If they’re ever on sale say for $5, I would consider buying them again. Thing is as much as I liked these games (and owning the discs in pristine condition), I don’t think I would give them another spin at this point.

      • I agree on a lot of those points for sure. Also with that pricing ordeal you face. I’m beginning to wonder why I don’t just burn copies of these games to disc’s and play them in my PSone on occasion. I mean, hell, I already own all these games I pull out and duplicates of some (factory sealed-it’s just hard to open even if they were the only one I had left). I’m going to stop buying these digital versions of games I have unless there is something more to them. I was doing it originally with everything to help support them for future releases. I’m looking at you Konami and Suikoden… where’s Suikoden II now with bugs fixed? I’m tired of playing it on PSP.

IIRC, wasn’t Epica Stella brought over to the US as Vanguard Bandits by Working Designs? (Or maybe something else. Or maybe I’m just hallucinating a memory of that…)

    • Trotmeister

      Yes, you’re exactly right.

    • Yeah and while I never got a chance to play the original Epica Stella, I hear Vanguard Bandits received a major overhaul from the original so I’m glad I had waited on the US version.

  • Bakkers

Oh, this HUMAN title is Epica Stella, not Epic :)

  • Advent_Andaryu

I wish they would do a VIII complimation… VII was great, but I believe it was VIII that really set the bar for future FF games.

  • Already have VIII so I’ll pass. The only one of the three PS1 FF I don’t own is IX so I’m waiting for that to come.

  • No doubt. Final Fantasy VIII will be coming to US PSN as well.

  • Rciwws

I picked up a mint condition version of VIII from a thrift store years back for 2 bucks. One of the best finds ever.
