Summons either act as a computer controlled partner or transform in Gestalt mode to mounts like a horse.

The dramatic looking break screenshot takes place after an enemy is hit from a chain combo. Enemies inflicted with break status take extra damage and could be launched in the air in the Final Fantasy XIII trial version.

    Lame.

    • overlord_laharl

The summon? yeah, they are so lame. About the gameplay it look cool but I need to test the game for myself. The graphic are excelent like always (but that’s a minor detail for me)

  • Ereek

I may not be into the style they’ve used on the summons, but I’m very glad SE is trying something new with them. It may be a bit over-the-top, but I think the fact that they’re used as vehicles is interesting. Then again, they did it in X – Valefor so it’s not completely “new.”

  • Bafish

My “lame” comment was MY personal belief in the Final Fantasy series. I’m losing interest in the series as it becomes more bizarre by the next installment. I realize I might be in the minority, but I have now moved onto other promising franchises, like Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter.

    • Ereek

So, if you’re not interested in it, why would you post in an article about it in the first place?

    • Xeahnort

      I´m agree with you

I wish Atlus overtake S-E and become the greatest RPG company ever.Persona 3 and 4 had such compelling and mature stories, engaging characters, fantasic music, the introduction of Social Links in the genre adding the social aspects was marvelous.

Final Fantasy games are stuck in the past

      • Ereek

You know, I’m not trying to insult Persona, god forbid I did – Siliconera is filled with Persona lovers, but Social links didn’t really “innovate” anything. Dating Sim+RPG has existed for quite some time. If anything, it’s just a modification of the more popular Sakura Taisen.

        • overlord_laharl

Growlanser for me is the best in Dating Sim + RPG. Even you can change the story with your relasionship

Persona 2 > the other Personas. You can’t say that Persona 3/4 is more mature neither that the S. Link is the greatest invention (I like it anyway) yeah, I’m laharl but I am a Megaten tard too D:

Now Ereek, I think I can comment something even if i hate the game. I understand what Bafish said, but for myself I want to believe! XD and the trailer wasn’t that bad. More than FF fan, I’m going to play the game as an RPG fan.

          • Ereek

You can comment on something you dislike, but why would you want to? To me it seems like if you’re commenting on something you don’t like with just one word you’re looking for a negative response or simply attention in return. This is an article showing people new footage of a game and, according to what he said in another comment, he doesn’t like Final Fantasy anymore. Why would you watch it, if you’ve already made your decision?

Growlanser is love, I definitely agree. It was probably my first “real” exposure to Dating Sim+RPG. I’m very, very sad that ATLUS isn’t giving us Growlanser PSP yet – or ever. Though I’m also partial to Ar tonelico. I like Persona, much love especially for Innocent Sin, don’t get me wrong. I didn’t mean to sound like I don’t, but I think at this point people are giving it too much credit.

          • Bafish

Ereek, I can understand why you think that way. It is true some people might be seeking attention to get people annoyed. I wrote my “lame” comment, because the minute I read the article, that was my first thought. I guess looking at the photos of the game made think of how Final Fantasy has changed. I’m 30, and I have played many Final Fantasy games, so to see Final Fantasy go this direction is turning ME away.

I can only comment for myself. Many people will enjoy this game, and that is great. I myself as an RPG fan, still watch the series and hope for the “good ol” days of Final Fantasy.

I didn’t mean to offend any FF fans or be negative. I guess it did sort of come out that way. Anyways, if you are a fan, GREAT. RPG support is growing and in the end that is what matters.

FF fan turned Monster Hunter fan lol!
            Cheers!

          • Ereek

Ah, it’s not letting me reply to you, I suppose we’ve reached the limit on how far it tabs in.

I understand exactly what you’re saying. I can’t say I’m particularly thrilled about everything I see in FFXIII, but I’m also not willing to write it off just yet. If I wrote off games simply because I didn’t like what I saw at first, I would never have played some of my favorite games. For that matter, I loved what I saw in some other games (that even got amazing reviews!) and ended up disliking them immensely.

I think, as a whole, many people jump to conclusions simply based off what they see in trailers or read in reviews and never give the game a chance. Example: Nowadays the key term to throw around about JRPGs is “grinding.” Yet in about 70% of JRPGs you actually never have to grind at all. It might make it easier to, but you don’t actually have to.

While I’m not saying you have to like what you see – I certainly don’t like everything, I think we should at least wait until the game is out first before we begin judging it.

I actually rather grow to like the vehicle summons, the mechanical motif is cool. One reason why FF summons are cool is because they’re over the top, something that Lost Odyssey lacks and missed by some people. They use the names for the ships in XII, but just for the sake of “sounding cool”.

I’m excited about this game and pre-ordered it two days ago after seeing the TGS 09 trailer.

I’m 30 too but I still want to follow FF (XII was really a mix for me, somethings are fun, but it lacked the oomph, just lacking something that makes it memorable). Dragon Quest I don’t know, isn’t that even more stagnant than anything. They could do the same thing until DQ XX and nobody would complain playing the same game year after year. I’m the opposite, people are raving about the Persona series or Monster Hunter, but I’m actually at a point that I don’t care about things like social links, which is something I would’ve liked if I was younger because I was totally big on dating sims.

Maybe it’s because I like movies a lot in general, I’m looking for a good story in RPGs or other genres that would suck me into their world and get me involved. That’s what makes me want to continue playing RPGs, not the dungeons in P3/P4 which many people seem to love. But that’s just the old tired me.

    • overlord_laharl

You should make a diference with the P3/4 hype (they are cool enyway) and the epic Persona 2. Still Persona is only a part of SMT. Nobody mention Digital Devil Saga or Devil Summoner or the old ones (Soul Hacker) I mean smt now is only P3/4 -w-

I always get draw with concepts, legend, mithology, Philosophy, etc. That’s why I don’t like the new summons, It appear that I’m seeing a transformer movie LOL

      • Aoshi00

Maybe so, but I still think it’s cool nonetheless. When I saw Snow’s Shiva bike, it reminded me of Kos-Mos in Xenosaga Ep 2. What’s bad about transformers, it was part of my childhood, and I liked Bay’s first movie okay, haven’t seen the 2nd one yet. The way I see it there are two ways FF can go about, either medieval fantasy (1-6,9,12), or mechanical (7 & 8, VS13), XIII and X seem to be a mix. I like the firework scene in the latest trailer, the sphere thing reminds me of the Blitzball barrier in X.

I know P3/4 is only a subbranch, but I never liked SMT that much.. just the sort of the game it is, collecting demons and monsters and such. I bought Raido 2 but I haven’t played it too much… I also loved the design of P3/4, but I was put off by the social links and dungeons, both to me are too time consuming, especially 3′s Tartarus. I think chances are slim I would go back to P3, but I really want to finish P4 one day, only played the Jpn ver for 8 hrs or so, having rescued Yukiko..
