Game Arts And The Magic Obelisk

By Spencer . October 8, 2009 . 3:19pm

image In addition to Lunar: Silver Star Harmony and Shadow Walker, Game Arts may be working on another game. The Tokyo based studio trademarked The Magic Obelisk for use with downloadable computer game programs and computer video games.

One thought is the trademark is for the international name or Shadow Walker: The Boy of Shadow and Fairy of Light. Shadow Walker: The Magic Obelisk? It could work, but doesn’t fit like a glove.

New project or Shadow Walker subtitle? You decide.

I've been crossing my fingers for too long regarding these guys, they helped develop Smash Bros Brawl, have a solid engine running and their new Wiiware title looks ace... Plus, Grandia 3 on the PS2 actually looks better than some next gen offerings... So I hope they pull a Grandia 4, or similar scale game on the Wii sometime.
  • While I want to agree with you re: Grandia 3, I tried to play it for a bit a few weeks ago and it looked horrible. Perhaps it was stretched to ugly proportions on my HDTV, or perhaps my launch PS3 didn't feel like making it look as good as it did when I first played it on a small SD set with my PS2... but it's kind of blah, now.

Graphics notwithstanding, the game's great anyway. If rushed and unfinished. Seriously, don't let me fly over several continents littered with informational text boxes and never, ever let me land there or explore them. That game was given such poor treatment and kicked onto shelves. So unfair.

G3 is definitely a story of two halves. With such wonders awaiting as the Sky Captain and the sailor whose lifelong goal is to map and see everything the world has to offer, the pure adventure feel of Grandia I was SOOOO much in evidence. Mom was a deep character who again echoed Justin's mom.

But.....then we get nothing more than visiting the fire, water and earth whatevers and whatsnots. The captain becomes no more than a background mechanic and while mom and her new sailor beau seem happy, we learn nothing of their adventure. Don't get me started with the whole flying race island that is there, but isn't. But somehow I too found a way to finish the game before sending it on its way to gamestop.
  • A lot of people seem to like Grandia 2 the best, but for me, nothing can match the magic and infectious fun of "going on an adventure" with Justin and crew of Grandia 1. Probably because Justin was such an excitable character and everything he saw was amazing, thus, it was amazing to us.

It was just such a wonderful story of a kid getting to explore a basically unknown and ignorant world. G2 was sort of cliche light v dark, G3 was unfinished, and G Xtreme just served as fanservice to create the perfect Grandia battle system.

I actually think Grandia 3 looks pretty good. Most of the scenery and all does. But I only just started playing a week or two ago.
And Grandia 2 is my favorite, but I want to play 1. I just don't know if the graphics will bug me for too long.

Isn't the nice part about 2 though, is that it's a little like Lunar:EB and the strongest part of the light is gone? It's a cliche that manages to be a little unique.

But a new Grandia would be nice.

I'd rather get a Grandia 1 remake, at least then we're guaranteed a great game (unlike G2/3). Or maybe a Grandia Gaiden, continuing with Justin, Feena, etc.

I really enjoyed Grandia 2, back then. Grandia 1 (storywise) only became interesting for me after Sue left...aah whoever puts little kids in RPG parties...>.<
    G3 however...I didn't bother finishing.

yup, Grandia 2 is still the best.
  • Maybe when they are done with Grandia Online (meh).

But i can't see a G4 being made for now. The series is just not that popular. If they do it anyway, I bet it will be for DS or something, in order to keep costs down.

On the other hand, a Xtreme porting for Wii would be appreciated since I've never got around to play it... although maybe it wouldn't fit too well with the audience.
  • Game Arts... Game Arts... Grandia? Oh! Alisia Dragoon?! She kind of used a sorta-spear, right? Or a whip... man, it's been a while. Of course, I'm banking on old game revivals. It's quite possible this is something different/new entirely.
