3D Dot Game Heroes is more than a Zelda homage. It has mini-games too! Block Defense (pictured above) is a tower defense style game where you place fire, slow, missile, and arrow blocks that attack monsters running on a map. The screenshots also imply your character can join in on the action a la South Park: Let’s Go Tower Defense Play.

Dash Race is exactly what it sounds like, a footrace mini-game. You can earn prizes by playing this if you complete the course fast enough.

Hmm. This game still doesn’t do anything for me, honestly. The fact that it’s made by From Software makes me even less interested…

From Software usually makes solid games, Armored Core, King’s Field, Lost Kingdoms, Another Century Episode, and Evergrace series, Many other good standalone games(Shadow Tower/2 in Japan, Eternal Ring, Demon’s Souls.)

For the amount of time it’s been a company, they’ve made more games that are good than some of the more well known developers. They’re not an obscure third party developer, but until Demon’s Souls, most gamers wouldn’t have known them.

I’d agree that From Software is not a bad company AT ALL. Great stuff time and time again.

This game just keeps getting better, for me, especially with the total retro feel going into a 3D realm. It just looks very well done. Tower Defense? Man, I’m afraid I may get addicted to just that tiny portion of the game and not move in like I did with Triple Triad.

          I agree, Mr_Qoo.
The more I learn about this game, the more interesting it becomes!
Also, I don’t know what anyone would have against From Software.
They’re a solid company with solid games. If you ask me, they’re doing things right.

It wouldn’t be a proper “Zelda homage” without mini-games, though.
