Shadow of the Ninja And Other Natsume Classics Could Come To Virtual Console

imageSeeing Super Mario Bros. for the tenth time is nice, but I’d rather see obscure, hard to find, games on Virtual Console. Before Natsume became synonymous with Harvest Moon they released all kinds of games. RPGs, steampunk shooters, and even ninja titles.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 whetted my appetite for a two player ninja game so I asked Natsume if we would ever see Shadow of Ninja available as a Virtual Console download.

“Funny thing…you’re the fourth person to ask this question in the span of a week. We recently had a meeting with Nintendo and one of the things we discussed was getting some more of our classic NES and SNES games out on Virtual Console,” Graham Markay, Vice President of Operations at Natsume, said to Siliconera.

Shadow of the Ninja is definitely high up on the list of titles that we’d like to release. I’ll be sure to keep you updated on that one.”

SNES games too? Natsume was responsible for some of the Lufia titles back then and Pocky & Rocky. I wonder how far Natsume will dig into their library. Will we see S.C.A.T.? Shatterhand? Not sure what any of these are? Then read this.

Natsume handled the US localization(?)/publishing of Lufia II and 3 (GBC), but that’s it. Although now that I think about it, they might be one of no doubt several reasons the series hasn’t had any re-releases. (that and Neverland’s perpetual bad luck)

There are plenty of Natsume games I’d like to see again, though…Chaos World, the Spanky games, and the superb Wild Guns. But I’m not really interested in VC release so much as remakes and sequels…

wait a sec, wait a sec! If you can contact Natsume….is it true that they were planning to publish the US release of Rainy Woods? Because I really, really want an update on that game.

Awesome. Natsume’s one of the companies I’ve most wanted on VC… though Pocky & Rocky and Lufia may be trickier as both were technically Taito licenses (even though Natsume developed P&R 1-2 SNES inhouse). I’d add Ninja Warriors SNES to that list too sadly.

I would love to see the SNES Pocky and Rocky games on VC too, but P&R for the GBA was god awful..

I am not sure if it would be tricky with Shatterhand. That game is actually a slight retooling of a licensed game in Japan. Not sure if there would be any rights issues involved or not.

I’m not too familiar with their older games, but I loved Princess Debut for the DS.

Good job linking to HG101, I’ve written for the site before, so it is nice to see it spread around. That’s a good article too ;D

I love the old Natsume action games (actually I was thinking of playing some Shatterhand today!) so this is nice to hear, regardless of whether I have a Wii or not.
