Konami Changes Gradius ReBirth’s Core With Upgrade Patch

By Spencer . October 18, 2009 . 12:48pm

image Out of the blue Konami, just released a patch for Gradius Rebirth (thanks for the tip Denpa no Sekai!!).

This revision modifies the scoring system, enhances the graphics, and adds background music. A few other tweaks like displaying the number of runs through the game and a stage select change are part of the update too. Since Konami re-worked the scoring system the update also has a new leaderboard chart.

You can get the update by downloading Gradius ReBirth again from the Wii Shopping Channel.

Kudos to Konami and M2, the developer, for updating Gradius ReBirth this late. The game came out over a year ago in Japan. Also, how often do Wii or WiiWare games get patched? Better question — has a Wii or WiiWare game been patched post release?

Pokemon Ranch has been updated at least a couple of times and Icarian: Kindred Spirits was patched to change the title. (There are probably others, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.)

Haha nice “Shoot the Core” reference in the title, Spencer. I recall the Japanese version of Pokemon Ranch getting a patch post release, which makes it compatible with Pokemon Platinum and adds other content. But it doesn’t seem other regions are getting that patch.

I’m not sure if North Americans have the Gradius Rebirth patch yet (didn’t see differences after redownloading or the usual “updated!” text on the Wii Shop channel). Hopefully soon?

The issue with those updates is one of visibility. There is always stuff that gets patched, but you won’t know if you don’t know where to look. The only way to do it right now is to open the Shop Channel and go to your download history, then look for the “update available” tag on each item.

At least for people who opted in to WiiConnect24 there should be a notification service, automatically reporting what is available instead of manual research.

BTW, article tags are fubared. They currently say “Graidus” and “Graidus Rebirth”.
