Cho Aniki Zero And GungHo’s Sprite RPG, Mimana Iyar Chronicles, Muscling Overseas

Thanks to Aksys, it’s going to rain GungHo games next year. They extended their partnership beyond Hero’s Saga Laevatein Tactics by picking up Cho Aniki Zero and Mimana Iyar Chronicles.

Mimana Iyar Chronicles is a traditional RPG with a story from ex Lunar and Tales of Destiny 2 staff. Frank “Bo” deWindt II, Associate Producer at Aksys, adds “With your ladies by your side on your epic quest to save the world, no one can stand in your way!” Not even rock monsters? Mimana Iyar Chronicles will be released on UMD and as a PlayStation Network download next spring. And, if you haven’t seen it before here’s a trailer from the Japanese version.

Cho Aniki Zero aka Rei Cho Aniki in Japan is a prequel to the manly shooter series. It’s a 2.5D side scrolling shooter with irreverent and sometimes bizarre humor. Before Aksys announced it, we checked out the Japanese version and posted impressions. The North American release will only be available on the PlayStation Store and like Mimana it’s slated for spring 2010.

Here’s how Aksys describes Cho Aniki Zero’s story.

The Story So Far…
Since the death of Balzac, the Builder Planet has celebrated a long period of peace.
However, as time goes by, protein becomes scarce, and protein deficiency is soon a serious problem for the Builder Planet. As people struggle for control over what protein is left, Balzac II begins his subtle rise to power…
Learning of his return, Idaten and Benten take up arms and begin their man-tastic voyage…

  • I might keep my eye on Mimana Iyar Chronicles.

  • Great that rpg looks great and is real time img etting it 100%

  • Soma

Hahaha! The world needs more Cho Aniki! XD

Mimina Iyar Chronicles looks very rad. I really dig the character design.
Definitely going to keep it on my radar. =3

I really like the sprites in Mimana Iyar (especially the battle sprites), but I heard from importers that the game isn’t that great. Granted, there are tons of games that most people hate and I ended up loving, so I’ll probably check it out anyway.

Yes Awesome! I have been dying for someone to localize Mimana Iyar Chronicles and thankfully it’s getting a UMD release too. Cho Aniki on the other hand I could not care less for, sorry but I’m just not into games about flying men in banana hammocks who shoot at giant bosses that have multiple phallic attachments. Whats up with these games anyway?

    • Soma

Uh, they’re only the RADEST games of all time!

Not really, but they are pretty fun for a Shmup. They also have a wacky, homo-erotic humor to them which really should be experienced.

  • Ereek

GungHo relationship. The next thing we know they’ll be taking Lunar from XSEED, too.

Okay, that’s just me being cynical. I’ve heard bad things about Mimana Iyar Chronicles, but it still looks interesting enough to me.
