Sega Dates Bayonetta And Promises Pre-Order Bonuses For Patient Fans

Sega Dates Bayonetta And Promises Pre Order Bonuses For Patient Fans Bayonetta is officially out in Japan now and if you’re dying for climax action you can import the PlayStation 3 version. I did and discovered the Japanese version in English.

If you can wait until January 5 you can get Bayonetta and an exclusive pre-order item. Bayonetta will go on sale in Europe a few days later on January 8.

But, the game is already localized so why is there any wait?

Mike Hayes, CEO of Sega America & Europe, offers an explanation, “We chose a January ship date for Bayonetta as we firmly believe that it is the best time for Sega and our retail partners to launch this exciting new IP in the West, and push for a number #1 retail slot. Bayonetta is a huge title for us and the perfect start for the New Year, both for Sega and gamers across the West.”

No word on what this pre-order bonus may be?
I mean, depending on what that bonus may be, there's no real incentive for fans to not import the title.

No word official word, sorry :(. But, a Sega leak from awhile ago mentioned Bayonetta figures with a limited edition of sorts.

Bayonetta RealDoll or no [pre]sale, Sega of America.

    Figures?!
Dammit! They know my weakness …
If figures are confirmed, I will likely buy this.

Sorry Sega but this game is not launching on a good day for me, for those that dont know Bayonetta now comes out on the same day as Darksiders and given what I know about each my money is going on Darksiders. Perhaps I would feel different if Sega and Platinum saw fit to actually make Bayonetta properly for both consoles but given how terrible the PS3 version (my platform of choice for action games) is I think I will wait until this drops to the 40 dollar or so range. Its silly but when a game has a half ass showing for no reason other then lazyness it kills my anticipation for a title, and knowing that I would have to get this for my 360 I will just wait, nothing against the 360 mind you but I dont like its controller for these types of games due to the bumpers and bumped up buttons which tend to give me a cramp in my thumb when having to push them repeatedly for a long time.

It would definitely be great if they do throw in something worthwhile for fans who pre-order the game. Usually I don't care about soundtracks much, but for Bayonetta, a soundtrack (not sampler w/ 3 tracks) would make me very happy. I think that's what Japan is getting too for part of their bonus right?

Wish I could grab the game now, since it would look and sound awesome on my home theater, but I'll hold off if it means a neat pre-order bonus.

I never even heard of Darksiders until like a week ago and judging from the gameplay vids, Bayonetta KILLS it. I already played the Bayonetta demo on PSN and it rocks. In fact, in the genre of hack n slash/beat em up, it's only real compatition next year is God of War III, Dante's Inferno and possibly Castlevania Lords of Shadow.
Though I am looking forward to Fist of the North Star Warriors & Sengoku Basara 3 (Devil Kings 3) myself

I actually think Darksiders looks interesting, I've been watching it for a while.

I believe you forgot Nier in your list, though.

  • Aoshi00

I'm very interested in Darksiders as well, but for a different reason, because Joker/Mark Hamill is in there :)

  • thebanditking

The official Bayonetta soundtrack is a 5 disc set so there is no way we will be getting that. I would not get my hopes up too high, I will bet the bean counters will keep us from getting anything too cool.

Depends on what your speed is but Darksiders is similar to Zelda in terms of exploration, and Darksiders will easily be a 10+ hour game where Bayonetta can be completed in about 4 hours (judging from those I know who imported it). People can make excuses all they want but given how badly the PS3 port runs, you can't tell me that does not cheapen the game a bit. Also if you look into Darksiders a bit more I think its easy to see why most will pass Bayonetta up (especially those who dont know who Kamiya is).

The art is being done by famed comic book artist Joe Madureira, also factor in the more “western” appeal in terms of character design and story. All I am saying is Platinum should have done better by PS3 fans as the 360 user base as a whole just does not support this type of game, DMC4 was a sequel to a well known franchise so skip that sales reference, they needed this to be on both to balance out the different demographics of each console and I know the PS3 owners I have spoke with are more then a little bitter over this sloppy port.

Could care less really. The game's presentation looked unimpressive to me to carer enough. Have you seen God of War III or Dante's Inferno? Those game scream amazing presentation. And I played the Bayonetta demo enough to not even care to notice the differences in port. It still played awesome and smooth and slick so I could really care less what bitter PS3 fanboys whine about. and also another action game I'm waiting for is Fist of the North Star Woooot!

  • Aoshi00

I've played only the first God of War and wasn't a huge fan, it just seems too gory for shock value, yet Bayonetta's style is brutal yet beautiful. You don't think Bayonetta has good presentation!? I just watched Hikari-chan demoing the intro stage on Inside Xbox again (last time it was just the demo), it's in the cemetary in the rain, know what song was playing as the background music, “Fly Me to the Moon”!! I love that song in Evangelion (yeah, like 2 dozen version and then Utada Hikaru in the new movie).

It's definitely a pity the PS3 port is inferior, and I'm the one who usually don't care and cannot tell any differences btwn two versions. I'm good w/ the 360 controller for this action game, so it's no big deal for me as I would get it on the 360.

  • Aoshi00

Yeah, they always sell a separate bulky soundtrack like FF12 (4 disc). It's just wishful thinking, but it's a nice thought they would throw us a bone. Regardless, this game is totally worth full price, pre-order bonus or no would not alter my decision in buying it. “Fly me to the moon” in the intro stage, can you believe it!? Right now I'm playing FFXII and dropping everything else (even went back to the Jpn version), the 3 games that I look most forward to are Mushihime-sama Futari, FFXIII, and Bayonetta.

I've played only the first God of War and wasn't a huge fan, it just seems too gory for sheer shock value (like ripping wings, heads and limbs off of people's torsos, stabbing gaints in their eyes, which is undeniably cool of course), yet Bayonetta's style is brutal yet graceful and beautiful.
