Shiren the Wanderer Drifting To PSP

By Spencer . November 3, 2009 . 12:19am

image Shiren the Wanderer (aka Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 in Japan) may not be a Wii exclusive anymore. Japanese retailer Rakuten has a PSP port of Shiren the Wanderer in their catalog dated for January 28, 2010.

Chunsoft adjusted Shiren 3’s balance so its friendly for newcomers and core users plus created an original dungeon just for the PSP version. Shiren the Wanderer for PSP also supports infrastructure mode for online rescues. Details if other network features like downloadable dungeons from the Wii version have not been announced leaked.

While this news is unofficial, it’s easy to believe. Spike, the developers of Kenka Bancho, are publishing Chunsoft’s games. As soon as they got the rights to 428 they ported it to PSP and PlayStation 3. 428, like Shiren the Wanderer, was originally developed for the Wii.

Japan is most likely going to see Shiren the Wanderer on PSP. The question is will Atlus release the PSP version here around the same time? Perhaps, they’re already working on it. That would explain the game’s spring 2010 release window nicely.

that’s quite a good move, as I thought Shiren 1 DS, who was a SNES port, was actually more suited for a portable than a home console. Plus, the game isn’t a graphical showcase of any kind, so it’s not one of those cases where a PSP version would be insultous. That said, I’ll probably be going with the Wii version on this one, mainly because I tend to dislike PSP pushing 3D graphics at native resolution (no AA in a portable and stuff)

I hope the enhancements are thrown into the Wii US release by Atlus.

If it’s true, and they both come stateside together, I could go with the PSP version. Roguelikes are better on portables. That said, I don’t know about this:

“Chunsoft adjusted Shiren 3’s balance so its friendly for newcomers and core users”

So they made it easier? Darn.

Shiren Wii has slipped from a day 1 to a “maybe someday” as the time I spend in front of a TV dwindles to near-nothing.

I have to admit that a portable version would be the only way to get my wallet back open.

I would rather play this on the psp than wii.

I’d rather play this on PSP as well…Hopefully Atlus thinks so too!

Smart move, I’d put money on Atlus bringing this version too. Also, if I’m not mistaken, this is the first time we’ve gotten a Shiren release on a PlayStation platform.

Sounds like Spike may be handling the port themselves? I know they did the 428 ports, and with Chunsoft doing Shiren 4, it seems likely. Chunsoft also outsourced Shiren DS 2 btw (to Land Ho, ex-Panzer Dragoon guys, makers of Derby Time, We Cheer and Dragon Blade).
