Taito Ports Space Invaders Extreme 2 To DSiWare

By Spencer . November 4, 2009 . 9:23am

Taito slimed down Space Invaders Extreme 2 to make Space Invaders Extreme Z, a Brain Age Express take on their trippy shooter.

The DSiWare download only has score attack and time attack modes. Stage branching and online play are out, but Taito managed to squeeze in three difficulty levels: beginner, normal, and extreme. You know what didn’t get cut? The moe level.

Space Invaders Extreme Z is available now on Japan’s DSiWare shop for 500 DSi Points. A North American release has not been announced, but it’s not like Taito has a ton to translate. Also, all of Taito’s digital games found their way over here so far.

    Not bad for 5 bucks.

I think they did this to make a final few bucks from a game that probably only sees used game sales nowadays (= no revenue for them). I doubt the full game would have been too big for DSiWare, and would probably sell in the premium category.

Awesome. I hope DSiWare versions of Arkanoid, Exit and Puzzle Bobble are coming too…
