ESRB Says Deadly Premonition Is Coming To PS3 Too

Rainy Woods was a multiplatform title. When Ignition announced Deadly Premonition, the game’s new name, they said it was only for Xbox 360. But, wait! The ESRB says Deadly Premonition is will be on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It sure looks like Deadly Premonition is still in development for both consoles. Perhaps, the title will only be a retail Xbox 360 game and a downloadable PlayStation 3 game – akin to Battle Fantasia.

In addition to preemptively announcing the PS3 version the ESRB spoiled details about Deadly Premonition’s monsters, weapons, and an interesting twist.

This is an action-horror game in which players assume the role of a detective investigating a series of strange murders in a small town. Players examine crime scenes, interview townspeople and suspects, and occasionally use guns, knives, and metal pipes to battle zombie-like creatures. One humanoid-like monster (naked, but with no genitalia or nipples) crawls along walls and can be killed by using a submachine gun. In one flashback sequence, players are able to control the villain (the Raincoat Killer) as he uses an axe to kill the townsfolk—toxic gas has left them in a deranged state; the grainy black-and-white sequence depicts the townsfolk emitting red blood-spurts when hit, as their bodies disappear.

Graphic depictions are presented during investigations of crime scenes, where players sometimes discover the victims: a woman is found tied to a tree with her abdomen sliced open—blood surrounds the open wound (hair partially obscures her breasts); another woman is strung up by wires in a shower, covered with blood, and strangled by an elaborate trap; and a "profile"-montage depicts still-frame images of a struggle between killer and victim amid sounds of crying and desperate pleas (e.g., "stop, please . . . I swear . . . I won’t tell anyone . . ."). A couple of cutscenes are intense as well, depicting suicides via gunshots to the head. The dialogue contains mild sexual innuendo (e.g., a woman at a gas station says, "Let me know if you want me to pump it") and more direct commentary about sex: "She’ll scr*w anyone" and "Oh, I sleep with anyone I wish. Anyone I prefer to sleep with . . . I could sleep with you, if you’d like."

Yay, though I would prefer a retail copy.

  • Randgriz

This is exellent news.. but where’s the PS3 version being advertised.
Thats what i want to know.

  • Hraesvelgr

    Who woulda thought.

Like how they censor “screw”, though.

  • gar3

But, but, this was suppose to be another M$ moneyhat! Now what am I going to complain about today :-( [/sarcasm]

Seriously though, I’m too old and stuck in my ways so I desire a physical product. If it truly is download-only for PlaySta, well, that stinks in my opinion. I wish we could have both. Options are good. If I do pick it up obviously it’ll be for the 360 but even though I wouldn’t download it over Live I still wish it to be there for anyone who would want to. Again, options are good.

Someone has really SCR*W’ed up this release.
Hey ESRB, i censored myself! =D

  • MisterNiwa

    What!? But the last trailer only showed the 360 Logo! And… !?!? This cant be true! Even though there were some supsicious Buttons in the trailer… @@;

  • I don’t have high expectations for this game but at the price I can’t deny it. I’m hoping it surprises me. I’m also one of those tried and true nerds that prefers physical media so it will be no question that I get this for 360.

isn’t this game like $20 anyways? So coming as a PSN/XBLA game is fine with me.

Hmm…does anyone else see this as another “outside company makes another mistake” bit of nonsense? How often do we see this type of thing nowadays only for the publisher to confirm it’s not true. Though who knows…

    • Hraesvelgr

ESRB has made a number of “leaks” like this, though whether it’s intentional or not is unclear. MMV can try to deny it if they want, but I think it’s pretty unlikely that the ESRB screwed (or scr*wed) up.

      • Tokyo Guy

Well I never use the 360 so it would be great if the game comes out for the PS3 as well, but its always curious when the actual development team hasn’t made any comments about the issue. Unless it wasn’t meant to be a simultaneous release.

        • nyobzoo

well it definitely has a good chance coming to the PS3 also I suppose, considering the latest trailer had the PS3 “X” and “Circle” buttons in the interface.
