See New Super Mario Bros. Wii TV Ads From Japan

By Spencer . November 16, 2009 . 9:19am

While New Super Mario Bros. Wii is out in North America, Japan has to wait a few more weeks to play as Penguin Mario. Nintendo is hyping it overseas with a set of commercials focusing on different features.

Notice how both people were playing the game alone? The biggest highlight in New Super Mario Bros. Wii here is cooperative multiplayer. In Japan, the last TV commercial highlights how easy it is to get into. Here’s the TV ad running in the States for comparison.

    new supa mario burossas wii

(also the woman playing was... disturbing xD) but well every country have its own unique culture, thats what makes this world a wonder
  • but here in uk national culture is forbidden for multi-culture WHATEVER THAT IS

to destroy a culture for so called multi culture is racism to that culture god forbid a english mans a englishman

    totally agree with your view

This is nothing compared to the PS3 Slim/PSP Go commercials w/ people making faces. I know "weird" comes w/ the territory when talking about Jpn ads, but they just look disturbing and silly... while the US "It only does everything" ads are quite funny.
  • Funny? I feel like crying while watching this...

This, too, but for a different reason

Sony's older commercials for the PS3 have been crap but some of the newer ones like Aoshi said are actually humorous.

Nah, not the old "Play Beyond" ones (though the black goo w/ octopus tentacles was pretty cool), that baby was creepy, but I meant recent ads like these, they actually make me laugh instead going WTH.

Not surprising since the trend in video games is to take out all the challenge and make the game playable by a chimp. Sad too that it is being marketed in such a stupid manner since the game is great.

Not like it matters though, it will set on top of the charts for 2 years regardless if it deserved it or not as long as you show that a one handed newt could play it. It is just our luck this one does actually deserve a place on that list.
  • Need a hug, daizyujin?

I'm not sure which regional promo you're referring to, but both seem legitimate on how you can play.

    Screw a hug, I need a kiss.

    haha

I actually like the US commercial when I saw it on TV the other day, I mean they shouldn't dumb it down, but when you think about it that's how me and my friends played it back on NES, a bunch of kids passing the controllers around. The Jpn commercial however I have a problem w/, the guy just seemed so fake, I bet it's one of those celebrities they pay a lot, I can't stand those phony commercials. Unless of course they have Liv Tyler, then I really don't mind so much :) hope my copy would come soon...

They're both celebrities. Ninomiya Kazunari and Matsushima Nahomi.

Oh it's not just this game. I'm not sure about the man, but the woman is a comedian or some kind of "talent" here in Japan. Recently there have been a LOT of Nintendo commercials with these kinds of people, such as Made in Ore, or even the entire DSi handheld.

They are designed to appeal to the non-gamer.

Oh I just saw these on the Yamanote Line this morning. There were a few interested glances from people on the train.

Suddenly I'm starting to get interested in this game. Though I question why Nintendo won't release it here until December.
