Those buy prices are pretty good. You cant beat that anywhere. But after the promotion period it back to the crappy buy prices again. The promotion is a good way to get a cheap headline as there getting here. On an everyday basis i sell my games at mx123.com. They pay high for my games and dvds.

Game rentals are illegal in Japan? Seriously? It's kind of funny to think that video game companies lobby politicians in Japan the way tobacco companies do in the US.

I don't get why anybody sells stuff at Gamestop. Generally anything they'll give you at Gamestop, you can get at least 50% more on ebay. And then you can use that money for stores that aren't Gamestop. Especially for rare RPGs, because Europeans will freaking shell out for those. I sold Tales of Destiny on ebay a few weeks ago and got more than I originally paid for it.

I've never actually rented anything from Tsutaya but have always assumed they will rent games. They can't? Then what about the other, similar store Geos? This is the first I've heard about game rentals in Japan being illegal. Is there a specific reason why?

And as for resale, if not mistaken that was illegal as well. Not so long ago games all use to have a “No Resale” icon on them.

First saw this deal when I thought about buying Dragon Age when it first came out, and now they have it for Assassin's Creed II. Just a little afraid of the line that says “GameStop reserves the right to end this promotion at any time,” but shouldn't be surprised. I don't think one month is enough time for either of the games. Would definitely consider NSMB if I had a Wii, though.

Yeah, I saw that TRU deal too, but I did the math and w/ the Amazon discount and no tax, Amazon still comes out on top (though only on select games, it's great if you haven't gotten games like Muramasa or Metroid Prime Trilogy). I wanted to get Assassin's Creed 2 or Raging Blast, but I tell myself to wait on those. The best deal is still buy 2 get 1 free though, there were several just a while back. And Amazon had the $40 credit for $80 or over 2 weeks ago. I'm dirt poor too w/ so many imports and domestic releases btwn now and Q1 next yr, not sure if I'd be doing anymore Thanksgiving bargain hunting… There are two categories, must-buys and deals (games that I don't immediately need) that are too good to pass up, that act in concert draining my wallet :(..

I completely forgot about that, but yeah, no game rentals in Japan.
It's pretty interesting seeing games sold in Yahoo Japan Auctions. From what little I've seen; new games seem like they sell for more, new used game about the market price, and older titles vary but not too cheap (GBA games seem to sell for 1000 to 1500 yen still).
Then again, and this might be the case, the amount of games actually listed in auctions in YJ is a dingleberry compared to, say, eBay.

Toys R Us has a pretty good deal; pay full price for New Mario and you get 20 bucks off any Wii, 360 and PS3 game (priced at $39.99+). I think it's still going on.
I'm broke as a joke, but that's a pretty sweet deal if you're looking for a new game to along with Mario.

It's just games. You can rent movies and CDs from Tsutaya and a bunch of other places.

As Aoshi said, this is one of the reasons why there's such a vibrant used game market in Japan.

I think it's just games, that's why Jpn is flooded w/ cheap used copies shortly after people finish playing them. I know I probably could get FFXIII used on ebay if I just wait a little bit, but I'm too impatient :(… There was certainly video rentals in Jpn back then.

Not that bad a deal, but unfortunately I could never finish any game so fast nowadays.. NSMB Wii is a fun party game though and worth owning to mess around w/ friends and family.

eb games canada did a thing for a while where you'd buy a select full priced game and could trade it in within a week for full credit (essentially a free 1week rental).

I had _NO_ idea rentals were illegal in Japan. Does this also apply to DVD/VHS?

sounds like a similar promotion they did very shortly in which if I trade in a game before 30 days, after the purchase I'll get 70% trade in credit back.
