Lots More La Pucelle Planned

By Spencer . November 20, 2009 . 2:31am

Nippon Ichi has plans for Prier and Paprica post La Pucelle: Ragnarok. The enhanced PSP port comes out next Thursday in Japan. After launch, Nippon Ichi will release downloadable cameo characters. No surprise there.

Later, perhaps much later, there will be another La Pucelle game and one more after that. Dengeki Online’s La Pucelle: Ragnarok blowout mentions this game is the first in a trilogy. Unfortunately, there aren’t any details about the other two games. So, we’ll leave it to you to imagine the sequel and threequel possibilities.

Oh, I’d like that. La Pucelle’s ending was so bittersweet.

  • JeremyR

I really liked the gameplay of it better than Disgaea. At least the normal fights and I thought the streams were more fun than the geo-panels. And the pirate cats were great, not as funny as the prinnies, but cuter.

But the item world stuff in D adds so much gameplay, and I think is the main reason that series is the most popular of NI’s games.

I wonder though if Mastiff publishing the PS2 game in the US will pose any products (or complications). Atlus did the original Disagaea in the US, but NISA and Atlus are pretty friendly. I dunno how they are with Mastiff…

    • Maybe I just didn’t know what the heck I was doing, but the battles in La Pucelle seemed last way too long to me. Even leveling up seemed a bit drawn out. Difficultly-wise, it’s on the complete opposite spectrum of Rhapsody, it’s predecessor.
It was interesting and I loved the pair-up attacks, but dang, those hippos never seemed to want to go down no matter what I do or how strong I was.

    • jarrodand

Is Mastiff still around even? I haven’t heard anything from them since Gurumin a couple years back?

      • endaround

I think they just released a hunting game.

They should’ve done this so much sooner…like when I bought the PS2 version back several years ago. I loved the heck out of it enough to buy Disgaea and then a good majority of my social life was lost for a good long time.

Haahhh…well, I guess it works if they actually go through with it. Then again, begs the question, if they’re going out of their way to actually extend this after years and years…what’s the word on Asagi getting her own game?

    • nyoron

Asagi should never get her own game, she’s much funnier that way.

      • Pichi

Its her running gag. If they gave her a game, its over for it.

        • raymk

i hope asagi gets in this game they did say cameo characters after all

          • cj_iwakura

            Prinny 2 will star Asagi.

AND I WILL BUY IT TWICE.

  • I can’t wait to try this one when it comes overseas, I missed it the first time.

  • kupomogli

La Pucelle, Disgaea, Phantom Brave, etc. Some of the worst strategy games ever devised. NIS needs to learn how to make a strategy game before they release two other versions.

    • Mind going into details instead of blatently trolling?

      • kupomogli

Throwing out an opinion isn’t trolling. Oh noes! I don’t like La Pucelle or Disgaea. I must obviously be trolling for saying that NIS needs to learn how to make a strategy game. The post would be very long if I gave details on why I think they’re poorly made TRPGs. So I’ll give the short version. Poorly designed maps, retarded AI, common sense required instead of actual strategy, all characters the same except stats aside from monsters/magic users/special characters, and then if you want to play a grinder because the enemy levels increase dramatically once you reach mid game even how retarded the AI is doesn’t help, then games like Disgaea are for you.

        • Well, you could’ve left the words out before ‘poorly’ out but at least that answers my question.

        • Ereek

All I’m seeing here is crying.

Why post in an article if all you’re going to do is make negative comments? The article isn’t meant for you.

        • Kris

I’m curious, what do you consider a good TRPG? Ogre Battle 64 is one of my personal favorites. Valkyria Chronicles maybe?

  • Dark_Sage

  • Man… I know NIS is a small time Japanese game company… but I really wish they’d make NEW games instead of making multiple “remakes” of their games for PSP & Wii etc… :

Edit: Also… charging money for DLC which isn’t DLC (just unlock keys) is a shady business practice! :

    • JeremyR

They did – Disgaea 3 – it sold worse than the PSP remakes.

So actually I guess that’s why they are doing La Pucelle, rather than make more Disgaea sequels (which would be kind of weird doing on the PSP), they can do sequels to that on the PSP (which wouldn’t be weird).

      • Main reason for Disgaea 3 failing: It was for the PS3 while it was expensive so many couldn´t get it.

Along with many many people claiming that Disgaea wasn´t a PS3 worthy title since it was still 2d on a 3d background and that many would rather have seen Disgaea 3 for PS2 instead.

        And so many more things.

To me, Disgaea 3 rocked and was really fun to play. Not as fun as Disgaea 2 sure but was still worth the money.

        • seconded

        • I bought Disgaea 3, so I’m not part of the problem why it didn’t do well. It is unfortunate that it didn’t sell well, and I understand it’s all about making things to sell… I guess I just wish things would sell better. Then again, I can’t even get Badman! on UMD anymore… because there was no demand. :(

          • I would say two reasons for that:
First one: It was sent out to the NISA followers trough twitter, e-mail and was announced at Rosenqueen, but I saw next to nothing about it on other places.

So the first one is to few people knowing about it

Second is: Simple, the news arrived to late. Those that were interested in Badman had already bought it for PSP as a download and didn´t want to spend the money again on getting a UMD disc.

Which is understandable. But a shame. I forgot about it and remembered it a day to late :(

  • i couldnt play this one, i really wish this could come to the US
